I'm trying to find a way to eliminate the line twist I'm getting while trolling dbl 9 and dbl 10's. It gets really bad on the bucktails that have been hit and bent at all. I like to troll them very shallow, just .5-1.5ft below the surface so I don't want to add weight if possible. I tried modifying some fluorocarbon leaders by taking off the snap and replacing it with a second ball bearing swivel but the leader just twists with the bucktail still. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

The easiest way that I know of is to do what you don't want to do, and that's to add a keel weight. Stealth Tackle sells one that's only 3/4 of an ounce. This will help eliminate the line twist, while not adding much to your running depth. You may have to run a bit shorter line when doing this in order to run at the depths you're looking at, or run at a higher speed to ride it a little higher.

It's possible that bending the shaft of the bucktail near the eye could help eliminate twist as well? But I haven't played with that to know for sure.

YOu don't have to add anything to the leader or bait. Take your needle nose pliers and grab the wire neck between the twisted eye of the bait and the first bead or clevis if there is no bead. Bend the wire with your thumb against the plier in a 45 - 90 degree angle. Just that bend in the neck of the wire will eliminated twist at any speed.

Good idea, I'll try that next time. Like I said I'd rather not mess with the weight. Thanks.
