So I have been doing some looking into a new big plastics rod in the 9'0" range. I don't think I can justify spending $385 for a thornes predator rod but found the Avaio rod while looking around a few sights. A couple of questions for those of you that might have one. How long is the butt section from the reel seat? How well balanced is the rod at 11 oz? Is the rod super stout like a St. Croix XXXH or does it have somewhat of a soft tip with a nice stiff backbone? Thinking of putting a saltist 20 level wind on it.

Thanks,
Matt Percival

I've got a 9 foot , I use mine for tails , there is no weight ratings on these rods though i was told not to throw pounders on the 9 upon purchase. 17.5 from center of reel seat i'm paired up with an MC MXJ6/4 which is probably heavier than the 20, and it seems a little forward heavy but fishing a non levelwind reel sorta balances it out. It does have somewhat of a soft tip and a good backbone. I like it alot but have issues with the guides, more so the tip which is smaller than an average musky rod and grabs the line while doing fig-8s with hard pulling baits.

Go on the Musky Mayhem website. Hoppe throws everything from small baits to pounders with this rod. My buddy likes his so much he bought two of them. Definitely a rod for blades and rubber if that's what your looking for.

I bought one 2 falls ago when they first came out.. Bought it specificaly for pounders that fall, and ended up using it a lot for just about everything last year.. I wish the warranty was longer or I'd have a few more(1 year). Softer tip than youd expect in a pounder rod, making showgirls throwable, but still strong enough to whip a pounder...
I've had everything from a calcutta b, to a trinidad on it, but kinda like a TE best..
Either way, my only complaint is the warranty of a rod I havent broke yet....

Good luck either way..

I dont have one, my wife does though. I thought $240 was a bit steep for a one year warranty, but she loves her Avaio too.
