| Was fishing this week and snagged a 46" in the side of its body trolling. Ever have this happen to you? I don't know if the fish rubbed up against the bait as it was moving or if the bait just went into its side as I motored along with the fish stationary. The bait was right in the middle of the body with back hook sunk in deep. Released just fine but this was a first for me snagging a fish while trolling. Line was 35' back over 20 fow going 4.8mph with bait down around 10'. Ever snag one on accident? Does it count as a caught fish or not count since the bait was nowhere near its head? |

| It also could have missed the hooks trying to hit the bait, but that's not too likely trolling. I snagged one just in front of the tail ripping a crank this summer. I saw it roll just as I started to rip the bait and sow it miss with its mouth, but felt a huge pull. Just a little guy that swam off fine, didn't seem to hurt the spine at least. |

Location: oswego, il | The fish probably rolled at the bait and snagged itself. I have also caught muskies that were hooked in the mouth and the time it was netted the lure was in the body of the fish.

Location: Illinois | It counts for memories, which is more valuable than any contest anyway. Entering it in a competition would probably be a mistake but check with the organizing body. My buddy snagged one under the boat out of nowhere in a tourney this year and we did not register the fish, which would have won the event. We were told by the organizers that we could have counted the fish, but we knew taking that money wasn't right. Hitting under the boat suddenly and being foul-hooked, my buddy thought he had a 40lber, boy were we bummed we didn't get hooks in it's mouth! Stupid fish! |

Location: Hudson, WI | I snagged a 50.5 a couple years ago casting a bull dawg. Snagged it right near the tail fin. A friend of mine caught it 2 days later in the same spot and it had the scar right where I snagged it. It was quite the fight! |

| I caught what I thought was "the Queen", turned out to be a 42" sturgeon hooked in the back. It was a fun 3 minutes but depressing every time I think back about it. |

Location: Alexandria, Minnesota | When they prey on large schools of baitfish they will sometimes ram the baitfish/tulibees to break there backs and then they will swing around and scoop up the injured fish up. We have had many fish ram our baits over the years, It will make the rod shoot forward going completely limp and then the lure will start running true again for a few seconds before they actually comeback and hit the lure. I think what has happend to some of you guys is that you actually got some hooks into the fish when they rammed the lure. I have had this happen numerous times over the years. We have caught fish with hooks on top of their face, not in their mouths.
Note: With the water temps reaching 80 degrees I would lay off any trolling patterns because you are risking the chance of killing the fish. |

| Water temp was 78 degrees and I usually hang it up once it gets over 80 degrees. Why would trolling 10' deep be any different than casting in higher water temps? Unless a fish is brought up from real deep water it would seem the same to me?

| Zach,
I live in the Bemus Pt. area and have been fishing Chautauqua on a regular basis since 1969. Have snagged maybe 4 muskies over the years trolling the lower lake, lures running 8-9' deep over 15-18' of water. 3 of the fish on modified J-13 rapalas trolled 5' behind 2 oz of lead, lures running 45 to 55' back. All 4 were decent size fish for here, approx. 42-46", all hooked in the back or side. I don't consider them to be caught fish. Just figure I lined them, running lures a bit below them with the line/leader/lure being pulled up and over their back. Have snagged a couple big carp also, trolling muskies. When this happens, what a major pain in the a$$. |

Location: Cedarburg, Wisconsin | I've had a few trolling that were snagged up near the head, never as far back as mid body. I figured they hit and missed but while the lure slide past them the hooks got stuck, or they just pulled out of the mouth while the other end of the lure was also hooked somewhere else.
I've had way more casting that were snagged. My best was a 20#er on LOTW with one barb right up the, well, lets just say the sun don't shine there. Talk about a fight! But again, I never thought I snagged them without the fish taking a shot at the lure, maybe trying to ram the lure perhaps? |
