| These are some of the pics we took while stocking the East end of Lake Poygan with spotted muskies August 28, 2002. We used two boats to scatter plant most of the fingerlings in hopes of higher survival rates.
The DNR has been doing a great job at raising the special Great Lakes strain of muskies. This year they had a banner year allowing them to stock 2900 in Poygan, 2600 in Big Lake Butte des Mortes and another 1600 split between Fremont and Butte des Mortes. These are only a fraction of the whole program's fish, while most of the fingerlings are stocked in Green Bay. This is the first year for the Winnebago Chain and the 14th year for the bay.
Dave's Musky Club continues to be the driving force in funding this project and new contributors this year included the C & R Musky Club, Winnebagoland Musky Club and the Packerland Musky Club. Hopefully we can do even better next year!
Thanks to MF member JOMusky from the C & R Musky Club for this report and to all the clubs that help fund this great project. |

| Think they'll eat sheepshead? Great job Jo. This used to be a great muskie fishery. Hope it returns now that people are serious about it.

| Thanks for the posting Jason and all the positive feedback guys.
I trully believe the Winnebago chain has potential for a good musky fishery. We certainly need more musky water in Wisconsin and particularly in this part of the state. I realize that the number of fish we put in the system are minuscule in comparison to the amount of acreage there is, but we have to start some place. Hopefully in the next 10 years Poygan and Butte des Mortes will be worth spending some time on. |
