| hi,
Im working in NYC last week of August and have the weekend of (26-28). If I want to fish, which is my best option? |

| For muskie, greenwood lake in NJ is about 45 minutes to an hour away. Awesome walleye fishery as well. You could also fish the ocean. Lots of choices in that area. |

Location: Lebanon,Mo | May be a little more than six hours, but Chautauqua or St.Lawrence would be your best option...though the finger lakes are closer so maybe pike and trout there?? |

Location: St. Lawrence River | dont waste your time driving that far to fish the st. lawrence just one time. its a extremely complex system for a one time deal. unless youve been on it before. |

Location: MN | Roger, If money is not a problem and you are willing to travel to St Lawrence then hire the guide and have fun. NJ lake and reservoirs are very tough places to fish for musky. Stripers and bluefish fishing is usually great at this time of year. I'd recommend to go to Montauk (2 hours drive). There are tons of charter boats as well as regular party boats (check Viking fleet) available.

Location: Lebanon,Mo | The reason i brought up the St.Lawrence is the fact maybe you are coming from overseas and will need a guide/boat anyway. So if you have the opportunity to fish the larry, i would do it.Even if you dont land a fish, you will have that time spent on a system that produces the largest muskies in the world and maybe learn a few things the first time out with somebody. That my friend, will boost your confidence if you ever return to the river.I fished Chautauqua for years when i was a kid when i lived there, never once to actually musky fish.I returned back to my home state last August to fish muskies for the first time in a rental boat with no trolling motor a 10hp and nowwhere to stand, yet i managed to land a decent fish and lose two more not including the abundance of perch and walleye i caught.Everyone my friend has to start somewhere....go try it.. |

Roger if you truly have your heart set on catching a muskie I recommend booking a flight from NYC to Jamestown N.Y. and fishing Chautauqua Lake with a guide.
Chautauqua has likely the very best angler success ratio of hours per fish compared to anywhere in North America, bar none. It is a high quality fishery with both numbers and size. Most muskie waters have an angler success ratio of about 100 hours per fish boated. Chautauqua boasts a 9 hour ratio for experienced muskie anglers.
I recommend either of these two highly respected Captains, Mike Sperry or Larry Jones. Good luck Roger!

| I second Chautauqua Lake if your willing to travel across the state. I fish this lake and think that you have a good shot at fish if you make it up there. Either of the guys mentioned should be able to show you some fish. How about best catch rate other than LSC? I truly believe that! Best luck buddy!

| Thanks for all your valuable and friendly input. I have been fishing for muskies at LOTW five days (eleven in the boat, four on my rod) and Ive been fishing northerns in Sweden all My life. So I know a little bit when it comes to ol esox. I Will definitly hire a guide or try to team up With someone from a MI chapter. Sr Lawrence is truly a legendary water but Chautauqua allso sounds very interesting. |

| Roger, by "four on my rod" are you referring to fishing with a shore set? If so, what are some of your sets/ baits for Esox? |

Rodger,
I live in NYC. That would be a great weekend to head up to Chautauqua and fish the new moon. The only problem is I have to be back in the city on Sat. If you want, we could possibly head up there and fish all day Friday with a guide. I don't have a boat but would be willing to split the fee with you. If you prefer to cast we can see if Mike is available if you want to troll, Larry is the guy. Let me know.

Missourimuskyhunter understod my poor english correctly. I got four muskies and at the same time I caught the musky-fever.
They where caught casting and they hit The Lundberg Stalker.

| I have to agree that chautauqua is the place. You can be there from the city in 6 hrs or just a few minutes more. I also second mike speary for casting and cptn larry jones for trolling. You won't find better guys anywhere! Good luck. |

| You guys are going to have a blast. Roger if you go showing lots of pictures of those beautiful Chautauqua muskies around in Sweden you might start a stampede to the airport! Good luck!
(BTW, I absolutely love my M96 6.5x55 Carl Gustav) |
