Location: Tennessee | Since I live where people have no idea about big toothy fish I need some help. What are some of the treble hooks you like to use on 6"-9" lures? What size and brand? Not much here to buy so I have to order everything. Any help would be great. |

| I personally like VMC Conecuts but they get a bit expensive when ordering a bunch. Lots of guys use Mustads and don't really have any issues. As far as size goes- try to match what the manufacture put on them. They have worked with the bait so they know what works best most of the time. Best luck bud!

Location: Tennessee | Thanks for all the help. These aren't replacement hooks but for the lures I make. Since I have to order I might as well get the right thing and you guys know what that is. I had to ask the salt water guys too. Most of them don't ask for hooks, they want to add their own. I have upgraded all my hardware for muskie and saltwater lures so hopefully I won't have an issue with one when I ship it. |

Location: KY | Eagle claw 774 are very good 3/0 up to 5/0
Mustad 3551 6/0-7/0 are good, don't use the smaller hooks - too light wire
Mustad 35656BR for round bends with a short shank are good 1/0 -3/0 |

| Definitely a big vote for Gamakatsu and VMC.....NASTY sharp! Depends on the size/type of bait though, and whether you're casting or trolling....and HOW you're trolling. I like the 774 Eagle Claws for "small-ish" baits that take relatively big hooks, such as Shallow Invaders, Kickin' Minners, DDs TopRaiders, etc. But the expensive ones in the blue and red packages get the nod for little baits that take relatively little hooks, like baby Bucher cranks, small Jakes, Grandmas, etc. Those thin wire super "sticky" hooks are great for the trolling we do around here: relatively slow speeds, mono and great big fish. 'Least, that's how I do it, anyway.
Don't try this at home....prolly not a good idea for speed trolling with braid and stiff propwash rods. |
