I am wondering on the a prefered rod for throwing double bladed cowgirls. For the people who throw consistantly for long periods of time do you prefer a 8'6"-9" MH or a 8'6" Heavy....Do we want more bend at the tip or should it be a little stiffer?

For a good hookset I prefer a stiffer rod. Let the rod do the work so you dont have to!!!

I use the St. Croix Sling Blade and it works well. It´s 8´6" with a fast action.

I have both Tackle Industries 9' XH and Okuma 8.5' XH telescoping rods. Both are suiting my needs very well for less than the price of one of some of the competitive rods out there.

MH won't cut it. You're better off with a Heavy or X-Heavy.

Lots of good feedback so far.  In my opinion, its still a game of compromises pending your own personal needs.

A heavier Action rod will reduce drag/torque on the retrieve.... reducing fatigue.  This is a better option if you truly want to burn blades.... but it will be more difficult to cast the lure long distances.  Thus, the compromise.

A Medium or ligher action rod will cast better/further, but at high(er) retrieve speeds you will be fighting the rod making it more diffucult to reel in or figure8.  Thus, the compromise.

I've opted to use both options pending the application.  Moderate to slow retrieve speeds, I'm using a lighter action rod with a low gear ratio reel.  For high-speed presentations I'm using an XH rod with high gear ratio reel.

 Good Luck!

IMO XH is what you need. More than the H or XH is look at the lures rating for the rod you are buying. IMO you need a rod that is rated for lures in the range of 3oz-12oz or near that range. Manufacturers are not all the same with the "H" or "XH", "MH" etc rating you can still put all rods on a similar playing field when you look at the lure ratings.

By far my most popular double 10 bucktail rod is my Tackle Industries XH rods. Works extreamly well for regular and mag sized swimbaits too.

I don't get caught up all that much on the H or XH but the rod itself and tip action. Not saying that the rating isn't important for a good backbone on the hookset. I base mine more off the tip action. Each rod manufacturer is a little different. I look at the Elk Rivers that I am using and their XH I personally would rate the tip of that of one from others rated at H. I personally like the softer fast action tip for fighting fish. The backbone is strong which I like. I found out the hard way about 7-8 years back that I need to have some give somewhere in my system. I use to run steel leaders short stiff rod and no-strech line. I lost a number of fish because of things snapping with no give anywhere other than using your arms as the cushion which can get more tiring throughout the day. Length wise it use both the 8'6" and 8'10" and like them both. More times than not it is just grabbing a different rod for feel on the hands. Just my opinion but if you can try a few out before you buy would be a great option. I ave used some Lamiglass and the ratings and tips on those rods don't seem like they should perform they way they do. With that being said I think they have a VERY good rod and like the way they feel, handle, and fight fish.

I use 2 depending on the speed I want to bring in the double 10s...a stiffer tip is better imo for reels like the Trinidad...a softer tip and you are going to work harder...and figure 8s going fast are better with a stiffer tip...slow rolling/avg speed/night...Sling Blade is sweet...

Hands down a trimmed 9' 6" Heavy Predator. Stiff enough for burning and 8's but enough tip flex for distance and ease of casting.

I have a Thorne Predator and a Tackle Industries XH. Like them both but rod vs rod I like the Tackle Industries XH rod with split grip better. Add in the price of a TI rod vs TB rod and hands down Tackle Ind rods win it for me. The split grips are different than most too. My buddy has a Mojo St Croix and the split grips on the TI rods are about 25% bigger which really makes a positive difference. You can see pics on the TI site http://www.tackleindustries.com/muskypikerods.html Overall you want a rod that has a lure midpoint in the 4--6 oz rated range.

Another hats off to Tackle Industries. No clue what or how they made their blanks but I have never had rods like this before. Got 4 now. Can't wait for the trolling rods to come out! These are $250+ rods but for half the price. Love the SuperD swimbaits too. Great to have rubber swimbaits like this that can boat multiple fish and still stay together. Keep it up!
Thanks,
Lane

Can't say my TI rods are better than the St Croix blanks my Predators built on but there isn't enough difference to me to warrent the extra $250 a Predator/Croix coat...

Just fished 4 straight days with the big nasty and can't say enough good about how it handles 10's. Better than any other rod I have used.
