| While pulling up to the landing one evening a bunch of kids were useing the area as their local swimming pool and some guy was throwing a ball in the water for his lab to fetch. I figured they'ed all move I'm sure they have seen this before. Nobody moved even after I asked them to. When I slowly started pulling in trying to avoid all the kids and dog I forgot about my pole haning over the side which got caught up in the side of the pier and broke in half. NOT HAPPY................ |

Location: Ames, Iowa | Had a hick family using the launch at Little Wall in Iowa as their swimming/lounging dock. Walked down and told em they'd need to move when I backed in. Little Daisy Mae and Fido were the last outta the way as I backed in and I don't think mom was too happy with my intrusion into their play space. What was worse that day was the guy who left his truck and trailer parked in the rigging lane directly in front of the ramp while he was out on the lake. I haven't seen anything like these in MN, and the closest I have to it... last year... the vehicle had Iowa plates on it. |

Location: Tennessee | Yep we call this variation #3 of clowns on the boat ramp. I watched the local cops run a bunch off the ramp so I could take out. They seemed less than pleased with me or him. Sign 6 feet from them saying it was illegal to swim on or block the ramp. |

| You can't fix stupid. Thus I an now divorced.
That ignorant crap goes on everywhere.
Start cutting lines and pulling in the rods or blowing a little water on them works wonders. |

| There is one landing I use regularly which this is a daily occurence where shore fisherman at the landing are offended when people in boats want to use the BOAT LANDING to actually put in and take out boats...and that is the tip of the ice berg for things I have seen and experieced there, or various other landings over the years. I could write a book.
Had a buddy once say "the closer you get to water the more scrots' there are". Man was he ever right!! |

Location: Columbus, Georgia | I'm as far south as Knoxville. This spring as I was idling back to the launch and there were two teenage girls hanging out on the dock. As I got closer one of them decided that she wanted to be a "helper" and as I was within a few feet of the dock she reached for the boat and fell in.
I felt certain that she would get crushed by the boat. When she did surface she was smiling and stated that she had swum (sp) under the dock to avoid being crushed. She was very proud of herself for having survived. My wife and I felt close to a nervous breakdown.
The strangest part about the whole thing was that her parents witnessed the entire incident and were totally unfazed. It's like they didn't think twice about how close their daughter came to serious injury, or maybe worse.

Location: Ohio | I had some doofus off to the side of the back up road to load and unload a boat He was unstrapping his boat in the wrong place but I figured by the time I got to my truck and back to the launch old doofus would have his boat in the water and out of the way I was wrong, he just sat there and made my backing job extremely difficult

| Apparently none of you have ever been to the access in Cass Lake on the southside. Little kids jumping in/off your boat, rifling through your storage compartments, trying to hang off the back of your boat while your loading, people passed out, camping/drinking in the parkinglot. Go there for two hours and just watch. You will see it all. |

Location: Uxbridge Ontario | I frequent a very busy lake because it is only 10minutes from my house. The public boat launch that I use is always busy. I don't mind people if there are a lot of people in line to drop or remove their boats, but what frosts my nuts are the people that have no idea what they are doing and literally take 30minutes to put their boat in the water, or gear up on the launch or tie down right on the ramp. It is literally an every time occurrence. Makes me just want to go to my "A" lake another hour away.
But I haev had more run ins with idiots here than any other place. |

If you think you've seen it all, just hang out at a really busy boat ramp on a Hot,Windy day

Location: Perryville, MO | At the boat ramp God is teaching me the patience that I've yet to learn and appreciate.
I fish by myself more often than not. In between a busy job I manage to get on the water quite a bit. I probably have more pride than is warranted in my effeciency of getting the rig in and out of the water. So it comes as no surprise that I'm one of those guys who has no appreciation for a line, no understanding with those that use the ramp to fish or swim, and it drives me crazy to watch some dufus screw around with straps or gear.
On one the small lakes that I panfish there is quite a bit of bank fishing. Some people hike quite a distance to get to some nice locations. If a guy on the bank is anywhere near a location that I'd like to fish I steer clear. He's got limited water to fish and I let him have all he can get to. But more often than I care to think about, that same guy shows up to fish the ramp when it's time for me to get out and make an appointment back in the office. Then gives me a dirty look for using the ramp after refusing to pull in his lines.
I rarely fish weekends. My blood pressure would boil with what goes on at the launch. Stupid really...but we've all got a pet peeve or two and next to using the passing lane on the interstate for cruising 5 miles under the speed limit, the lack of boat ramp ethics tops the list for me.
I like the idea of a video. It would be funnier than Bill Dance outtakes. Maybe I'd learn to lighten-up over what I experience then. |

Location: WI | I've seen plenty of clueless boaters at landings. Generally try to avoid popular lakes on "nice" weekends & head for more out of the way places w/ unimproved landings. Did have the pleasure of watching an intoxicate women take a swim topless while launching the boat at Mt Simon park in Eau Claire, WI. Gotta luv the drunk chicks. |

Location: Eau Claire | Had some jackass let his kid untie my boat this weekend while I parked my truck. Got back with just enough time to watch the kid throw the rope in the water while the wind blew it away. The "father" figure, who had been standing there the whole time, almost refused when I handed him a life jacket and said go get my boat. |

| I like watching people load their boats back onto their trailers - that is entertaining.
I once saw a guy run at his trailer going very fast, rather than snug it up and then hit the throttle to push it up. He went over the right front edge of the trailer in a 50ยบ angle, scratching the heck out of his new aluminum tracker bass boat. When he finally got it unstuck he did the same darn thing again, but nailed it this time - literally! The car, yes car, that was towing it jolted as it was rear-ended.
Another time, I was launching my boat on a deserted launch in the middle of nowhere. We were all alone and fiddling with our gear when a big water truck pulled up and I offered to move. "No worries" he said as he started to squeeze in right beside me, (he literally could not wait 30 seconds). "Crunch" - darn it if he doesn't collapse my fender right to the rubber! I yell for him to stop, he acknowledges and winces, then pulls forward as metal screeches fill the air. And here is the best part - he gets out, walks right past me and casually starts illegally taking water from the lake, like the whole thing never happened! "So that's how it's going to be is it..." I say and I lose it on the guy. He backpedals, tries to weasel and pulls his wallet out grudgingly when I demand he do the right thing - I snatch it from his hands (no kidding - I am livid by now), open it up and grab $150 and 10$ in Tim Horton's coffee coupons. I toss it back to him and snap "You're getting off easy... many people would finish this by making your face look like my fender". When I got around to the other side of the boat, my buddy was crying he was laughing so hard. You don't mess with a man's family or his boat:) (BTW: I am the easiest going guy ever, but when I snap, which happens once every five years or so - I absolutely lose it! True story! I was livid for 3 hours after that (and didn't see a muskie all day.

At least you offered to move, in my case the guy sat in his truck, parked in 1/2 of the ramp lane and looked at a cheap marina map, the kind that is free and just shows the outline of the lake and nothing more I am as easy going as they come when it comes to fishing but I #*^@ near lost it and have decided to take a different approach now
