My son is looking for a new reel. He doesn't have a ton of cash and needs something a little more heavy duty than a standard 6500 which he's been using. He wants the reel for blades and cranks. Which is the better one to go with? The 7000C3 had a 4.1 ratio with 22" of pick up, the 7000iHSN has 5.3:1 with 28" pick up. He's hoping for something that's a little easier to reel in blades with compared to the 6500 which has a 5.3:1 with 25" of pick up on it. Any opinions or suggestions?

Thanks
Tim

My 7000C reels in big blades easy, but.. that is a big, heavy reel with no speed.
but it does handle big stuff easy. never thrown the high speed version
my $.02

I bought a gently used HSN and beat the crap out of it for 2.5 years before I had to send it in to get some work done on it. I threw a lot of 10's with it.

I preferred it over my C3 version, as I like having the speed as an option. The narrower profile is nice.

shoot me a pm roughneck ... i have an almost new 7000 iHSN with new gears for pulling double-10's. it's spooled and sits on the bench here. let me know if your son would be interested in it.

7000iHSN is a bit of work for double 10s, especially if you want to really burn them.
Going from a reel with 5.3:1 and 25" pickup to 5.3:1 and 28" pickup isn't going to be easier. In fact, it's likely to be a tick harder.
