For those of you that might build your own heavy spinnerbaits in 5 - 8oz. heads.

What size wire is sufficient to handle the load?     Is .063 enough???

Thanks,  JIM

.063 is plenty. I use .051 most of the time. It has been very durable and the lighter wire doesn't deaden the vibration of the blades as much. Hope this helps.

I have spoke to a few builders and they all seem to agree that .51 is enough, but the important part is the line tie. Make a loop (safety pin) instead of twisting on different planes. I have heard of them breaking at the stress point on non safety pin ties.

Thanks Rob and Greg for the reply.  I had to look, but I used .062  Greg I hear you for the vibration thing, But .051 is scary with that heavy lure. I used .035 for my light spinner heads, but replacement come soon after a few fish...

Rob; I did the loop attachment, But I have had those break on me also.   Spinnerbaits seem to run true with that loop for me. I just need to replace lure after 3 or 4 fish instead of waiting till the 9th or 10th fish.

I like .071 but it is a lot more work!
