anyone not use a leader?

I know some people do not use a leader and always figured myself I needed one, but now I am thinking, how the heck could a muskies teeth break through 60-100 lb superbraid? I mean, I know they are somewhat sharp, but I think some people overestimate how sharp they are, I found a small dead muskie on the surface and I felt its teeth and they are sharp, but I don't think they could cut my line. So, does anyone else think it would probobly be safe to do? I hate dealing with bending leaders. Or, does anyone think I am wrong? (which I could very well be)

Zach, there is a big difference between a small muskies teeth compared to a bigger one. You can just about lip a small musky. You can with a glove. I do think however that a 100lb superbraid may be able to handle a fish not anything much smaller though. I would definitely retie afterwards.

I know some Jig fishermen who don't use leaders, but after last year I will always use a leader. I was fishing with a friend of mine, and he was working a jerkbait. The fish came up, and missed his lure. It missed his 12 inch leader, and hit 2 inches up his line. The reason we know it was 2 inches up his line, is because that is how much line was on the leader when we got the bait back. That was 80# tuff-line. The superbraids are no match for teeth.

I had a muskie last year hammer my 10 inch Believer infront of the lure. I was using 100 LB lead core line as a leader and the fish cut right through that. You should always use a leader. Those teeth are sharp!

A guy I USED to fish with, lost three muskies, and three lures on a 13 muskie day. He refused to use a leader, because, his action was altered. I'm sure those fish died! Pi$$ed me off to no end.[:((]

Zachster. Its not all about the teeth, its gill plates and much more that will cut the line. Remember when using line, and the amount of tension on it, all it takes is somthing to hit the line and SNAP... it will happen, I always use a leader. Remember your only as strong as your weakest link.

Ok, I see now that leaders should be used (I always have anyway). One thing I did notice is lots problems with regular tuff line. Regular tuff line frays really bad as it is though. I like it, its strong and can hold fish, but when it comes to teeth there is no way it can be safe. Lines like spiderwire muskie braid though, are very tightly weaved and do not fray easily at all. Too bad they quit making it.
