Will be trying hard-ripping baits this season but I'd appreciate advice that may short cut a bit of the work.....and pain (important at my age.)
I have tried it using spinnerbaits and it certainly works, Jakes too.
Do you use it much with believers....if so straight or jointed....bulldawgs , others?
Any suggestions for other good rip baits would be appreciated.
How useful a technique is it with open water fish over deep water compared to other casting techniques?
I'd like any suggestions regarding rod length , I have been using a 6 1/2 foot stiff rod but wonder what a longer rod would be like.
Am I right that this is a deadly, under-used method that is not often employed mainly because of the effort needed?

Depthraiders jointed or straight are good bait for ripping as well. Very useful over open water... long rod is a must.

I would try a 7'6" - 8' Rod maybe a H or XH, once you have a fish on with a lock down drag and 80-100lb braid the rod is the only thig that will flex and you will need that to keep your fish from ripping the hooks out of his mouth. Also a 7'6" - 8' rod is better for a fig 8.
Also use your thumb on the spool when ripping, that will save your A/R Bearing in your reel. GOOD LUCK
