Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | Last week S.B. had 16-18 muskies in camp.
Yesterday the surface temps were 63-64*, Weeds are starting to come around pretty good.....Dropped my phone in the lake about 8:00 pm yesterday and had to drive 60 miles to Hibbing to buy a new one...right after having a smallish fish go around in the 8 twice..... Can't live without the Phone.....to many calls from those Evil Coal fired power plants. sometimes work and fishing happens.
anyway,..... It's going to be wet and rainy for the next few days up here with high temps in the 57* range and lows in the upper 40's, which means the water temps will drop again....... by Fri the water temps will be around 58-60*
The weekend will be nicer,.........Pray for HOT weather !

| Jerome, I don't have the luxury to drop my phone in the drink at Vermilion so I just have my wife throw it in the washing machine 2 time a year to make it feel like I am there.
Good Fishing

Location: Bemidji, Lake Vermilion | As an alternate resource, there is a great website that posts "big fish" as reported by nearly all the Lake Vermilion resorts weekly. You can find walleyes, northerns, bass (both largies and smallies) and even our favorite the muskies listed on there. Search lake vermilion fishing and its easy to find. The report is sortable by any of the columns for species, date, size, resort etc. It is operated by the Lake Vermilion Resort Association and can also provide a ton of other info for anyone coming to the area for any species of fish or any other reason for that matter. |

| Just wondering how anybody is doing up there this week w/ the full moon past along with the heat wave? Seeing much and is the night bite still the most productive?....get inline and sling those blades.
Heading up to the Big V for all of next week; will be on the east side.

Didn't see a thing in 5hrs of hard casting,...... I guess I will never live up to BNelson's avg. of boating a Muskie every 4.786621 hours spent on the water !
Dam, He's good....... Finishing up a job up here on Wednesday, so I'll be able to fish a bit more.

Location: Bemidji, Lake Vermilion | Plenty of nice fish being caught as long as you adapt to conditions and think out of the box. I can tell you if you are not moving fish, whether in the weeds or on the rocks, move in very shallow. If you don't visually see them, they are not there. Go elsewhere. Or...fish near those areas but deeper than you'd expect, lots of available baitfish seems to be keeping them off structures/weeds and deeper. Shallow bite, even after dark, has been inconsistent at best. |

|
| Anybody know what the water temps are as of late? Marking any baitfish moving up shallow yet? Heading up this week.
Thanks |

| Why do so many refer to Vermilion as the Big V as if there is some other well known small Vermilion lake? |

Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Hiya,
It might be because people realize there is a little vermilion lake as well. Also, Lake Vermilion is broken down into 3 parts...West, Middle, and East...
Kinda follows the same premise of why do people call Lake of the Woods LOTW...
or...why is Mille Lacs Lake called the big pond...
or Lake Minnetonka called just Tonka?
I know I don't refer to Lake Vermilion as the Big V, but I have friends that do.. All is good so long as people know what Big V is being referred to..

| Ya sure you betcha. Lots of diff names for Vermillllllly. All depends where your from. Locals used to call it the dead sea. Some call it best muskie lake in the world. Most folks I know just call it home....
Several Little Vermilion, Big Vermilion and Vermillion with two L's muskie lakes north of the border so don't get confused... |

Cast Big rubber for 6 hrs and trolled for 2.5 with nothing in the net.. Last week was awsome.

Location: Watertown, MN | Rick you going westside, I think this was the most pressure I have seen there, it was like summer up there with the number of boats, at one point counted 6 working one spot and another on deck waiting to get into the conga line. The pressure seemed to impact fishing catching and sighting. Next year might be looking for alternative to, just not sure what that is.

This late in fall it's unusual for that many people to fish anywhere.
I wonder what it could be that lead them to it?

| Funny whenever they fish MN they say body of water they are on and sometimes show the map of the lake and actually show certain spots. But they seem a little more hush-hush when it comes to WI. However I still enjoy watching the show, that 8-9 am time slot on Sat gets me my Muskie fix during the off season!! |

|
| East side looked like August too. Mulitple boats per spot. Sure was strange. |

| Was just a little disappointed in the size of the fish we caught this year ....every 2 years out there we boat a giant....this year cookie cutters...using 16 inch custom x lures....highlight of the trip.. my son boats 2... 51 inch in 5 minutes......maybe spoiled but im sure i could do better on Bemidji.....maybe next year.... Heineken was great... |

Location: Watertown, MN | Silver you know we are all up looking for that special fish, seem like 53-54 was top end of what we had heard caugh. Seemed like lot of mid 40 being caught, but with pressure the pie got shared quite a bit more this year. Next year is plan B not sure what it is but need to mix it up a bit.

| The summer catch of 38-46 inch fish seemed to hold true for this fall also. This bodes well for the future which is good. I didn't hear of any super tankers caught this fall which doesn't surpise me as their numbers are getting smaller every year. DNR spring netting has never caught a fish over 54.5 inches and they have netted hundreds of fish so that should tell you seomthing about those very very special fish larger than that. Always good to have a plan b or lake x in your game plan.... |
