Location: Lake of the Woods, Morson, Ontario | One more sleep til Ontario Opener and I'm getting excited to get back out there when time allows. I haven't got much in the way of weed growth reports, but water temps are coming up slightly with the heat the last couple of days.
We had 67.5 at the dock in the afternoon yesterday and the nights aren't having the chilly bite they have had for most of the spring. With another day of sunshine and forecasted high of 75, water temps should start to hold and gain some ground.
Water level is a bit higher to start the year than in 2010. Muskies have been active. Walleye anglers and those casting for bass or northern have been regularly getting some action they didnt expect.
With the great start to the walleye season up to this point, we have to expect muskie action will be great again in 2011.
Hope to have some first hand info to report after the weekend and will keep eyes/ears open to what our guests and friends are finding again this year.
Good luck to everyone hitting Ontario for the opener. Sick some biggies this weekend!

Location: Lake of the Woods, Morson, Ontario | Got out myself a little over the weekend so havent had a chance to talk to many others, but it was a bit of a lackluster start to the season according to the peoeple I did get to speak with.
Fishing solo on Saturday, I found water temps were low 60 up to about 66 in a couple bays in the shallower water basins. Weeds seem either a bit behind or lacking in general terms (rusty's maybe??) I'm guessing a bit behind because of the high water to start the season and distinct lack of sunshine overall this spring/summer.
Had 1 fish "on and gone" a Lil Eagle Tail in black/organe out of the best pocket of cabbage in the corner of a weedy bay on Sat night around 7pm. Had a a couple other swipes that could have been fish, but were up close on the sand so maybe something else too. Didnt feel any weeds or rock on subsqequent throwbacks so so thinking it was a fish of some sort.
Sunday afternoon was much better with 9 fish seen, 2 caught from 3-30 to 8-30. 7 of those were from sand/weeds. One from a rock point and the other from a large reef complex. Landed fish were from the sand/weeds and the reef. Small bucktail (Shumway Screamer) brought out most of the followers, including one really hot fish that had to try real hard not to end up hooked at boatside.) Nicer of the two fish ate a small jointed believer with a squirelly tail in perch pattern at boatside. The other caught fish came on a single blade bucktail with a small spinner blade trailer.
Sunday afternoon/evenings water temps were 63-64 with no sun to speak of on the weekend. Forecast showing high of 80 with sun by thursday so perhaps the water will start to warm up a bit more.
Will be speaking to guests/friends/dock customers throughout the week and hope to have more info to report. |

Location: Lake of the Woods, Morson, Ontario | Reports trickling in from people coming and going. most indicating that they aren't seeing anything unless there is cabbage present. White spinner baits have been mentioned numerous times. 4th day of east wind in a row coming wednesday..15 in the AM, then 20 in the PM.
Weather looks better for thursday and through the weekend. |

Location: Lake of the Woods, Morson, Ontario | been some tough sledding the last few days, but there has been a little action. couple of 50s for opening week is a good start with these condnitions.
report from one boat with skilled anlgers saying WTD and gliders are about the only things that are getting fish to eat.
fish have mostly been tight to sand, but a few on rocks also.
black/orange seems to be the main colour reported the last few days. |

Location: Lake of the Woods, Morson, Ontario | It will be great to have you guys here, Breautzy. Hopefully the fish will be co-operative!
Water temps came up nicely the last 3 days in the sun. Saw some 71-73 degrees Saturday night. A customer/guest that left Friday reported most action on WTD topwater and glider style baits. The last couple nights, have had 5 fish strike small twitch baits and head spinning topwater. A couple other follows on WTD and a twitcher.
Action has been around weeds/sand for the most part, but also some rock related stuff with weeds nearby.
Black/orange has been a consistent colour, but I wouldn't say there is a single hot bait/colour emerging as of yet. |
