| My fishing partner has missed several monster boat side cause he sucks at figure 8s in the dark!!!! Thinking about putting a glow bead about 2-3ft above his leader. I'm afraid it might be a deterrent! What are your thoughts guys????????? |

| yep i put a glow bead or a bright orange one i have on now cause the glow ones die out so quick on me and it seems to help a lot and also saves youre rod tip if you reel too far accidentally |

| use the gregg thomas leader systerm and when the knot comes through the top eyelet you can feel a light "tick". Once you feel that tick,,, start your figure 8. works great!! |

| herbie once showed me a Lil trick..... Take six feet of line and double it over( now u have two lines at 3 feet) take the tag end and and the top of the first six feet and wrap them around two fingers then bring the 3 feet of double line thru the loop three r four times n cinch it down. Now there's a Lil knot about 3 feet in front of where ur gonna tie ur leader(do this before u tie ur leader on) and just like gregs system u can hear and feel the knot go thru ur first eyelet. By doubling ur line over u also cover ur a** if u get some frays n ur line n u don't notice u have double the line strength. I was a Lil skeptical doing this at first but I've caught lots of fish with my line tied like that n never had any problems, herbie started doing this out of paranoia of loseing a world class fish due to line failure especially because of all the rocks on eagle and wat kind of fish swim in there. Maybe a temporary solution till u gets some of gregs leaders r glow beads( if u get glow beads make sure there the soft ones Thorne bros has em) |

Location: Columbus, Georgia | I ordered glow beads from numerous sources. Have ordered custom leaders with glow beads, and have never found any that actually glowed. I finally gave up on glow beads as a viable option. |

| I use the slip bobber knots that you buy at Walmart on the straw. Sinch it down about a foot above leader, it holds tight against the braid and I don't trim the ends. I eaither see the string or feel it go through the eye. |

| if he can somewhat see the bait than use a shorter leader otherwise. Who says your leader needs to be 12 inches? And putting a bead 2 to 3 feet in front is way to much of a leash to have out for the 8. Try going to a 6 inch leader...if all he casts at night is blades a 6 incher would be perfect, plus more maneuverability. |

| Thanks for the suggestions guys!!! I'll try all of them! Learned from Salmon fisherman if you use a cameras flash on the beads they will glow for a really long time. Thanks again! |

| I just take one of the little rubber bands that I have in the boat for sucker rigs and tie it around my line a couple of feet above my leader. |

Location: Northwest Wi. | I use the plastic snap-on bobber stops two feet above the leader..You can feel the "tick". Tried the glow leaders- not a big fan of them, always had to recharge the bead. |

| Put a small Bucher Supersplitring on yer leader swivel and tie to that. Go into your 8 as the bait approaches the boat with the split ring hitting the top eye just after you've sunk the rod and are going into the first turn. I've used this approach so long I don't have to see my bait to go into a effective 8 regardless of darkness, turbid water or high wind. Just another way. |

| tie a bobber stop knot 6 inch from your leader

Location: The Yahara Chain | +1 on the Glowing Outdoors. Put a small piece of it at the end of your leader near your line. This stuff actually glows for a long time, unlike any glow beads that I have tried. |

| My trick is this:
I use a flat-tipped Sharpie marker on the last ~8' of my line. Does two things: keeps the fish in the dark, and keeps me in the know.....on when my leader is about to emerge out of murky water.
At night, when a Sharpie's mark is obviously obsolete, I use rubber band sections and a half-hitch knot. I guess it might technically be an overhand knot, but the result is the same. Stick a 1/2" section of rubber through a knot, and trim the ends. Anyway, a rubberband will make a nice clicking sound when it comes through your guides. Cheap, easy, doesn't require any actual knot in the line, etc. |

Location: lansing, il | Here is the Glowin Outdoors Night Leader that Dan makes using our leaders. The Glow strip is secured to the leader and we have had no issues with them coming off. The Glowin Outdoors product will by far outlast any glow bead out there, incuding our own, which need continuous recharging throughout the night.
If you dont like anything glowing in the water near your bait we also make the Gregg Thomas Hybrid Leader system which uses a uni-knot that will "click" your eyelet which tells you when to start your figure 8.

| A bead would probably work pretty well. I usually use a small glow in the dark sticker and fold it around my line about a foot or two up from my leader. |

| This topic is moot if you learn to go into and manage wide/fast 8's without having to rely on your eyes.
Use the force.

| Ranger, My fishing buddy is no Jedi, the simpler the better. Really liking the Knot/rubberband on the line so he can feel it tick at the rods tip, then go right into a smooth 8. Glow beads seem a hassle! Thanks to every one for there suggestions!!!! |

Location: Maple Grove, MN | I have a couple of spinner baits set up for night fishing. All I did was swap the blade out with a glow in the dark blade. We just keep them charged up with the boat lights. The fish don't seem to mind either. Ether way we catch nothing. |

There's no reason why your buddy can't learn a best practice approach from the beginning. Regarding the rubberband trick....yes they come in easy but how easy will the go back out under the pressure of a green boat-side fish?
What will you do when the fish needs line to get away from the boat and your drag system (or thumb) doesn't matter because your line is locked on an eye on your rod because you tied a rubber band there?
Never allow "any outgoing obsitcal" to go thru the top eye in the first place.
Just learn to not need all that crap which is not reliable anyway. |

Location: Ontario | I'm thinkin with 80 to 150 pound braided line, large, hard rod guides and a muskie pulling on the other end a foot or two from the rod tip a rubber band is gonna put up about as much resistance and and give you as much trouble as...a rubber band lol. |

Isnt part of the point NOT to slam the split ring into the last eye? |

| The Split ring idea sounds nice and simple, but messing up the tips of my 200-$300 rods is not appealing, But if it gets my brother/partner more fish then It's worth a try. Definitely gonna try the rubber band method as well, with braid, huge rods and powerful reels and massive amounts of torque from a pulling Minnesota musky, I'm not worried about a rubber band being an obstruction. If he could fish more then 2 weeks a year I'm sure he would learn to feel the bait coming close like a lot of us can. I have always heard from a TON!!!!! of Pro-Guides I have fished with that you should never let the leader hit the rods tip, cause it can spook fish, Also heard the opposite of that from some really good anglers. So who really know what there talking about, NOBODY. I'll see what works best in 12 days! Thanks Guys.... |
