Why is it…

Why is it that when I’m at work the conditions are good for fishing-like today, and when I make plans to go fishing it’s a great day for golf?
I should be fishing today!!!

I hear ya there!!! Warm fronts avoid me like the plague. Post cold fronts seem to have a strong affinity for my presence.

AND.... I always seem to be a day late or a day early.

I try to tell myself its just "the grass is greener on the other side".... but I ain't buyin' it any longer. Thank god I no longer have a window in my office to see what I'm missing.... or I'd go insane. [:p]

I suppose it won't surprise you that I'm on vacation in the northwoods next week....

Forcast calls for rain, highs in the low 50's, and lows in the high 30's. What a week to take my wife fishing!!!! Geez.

Whine, whine, whine. You guys want a warm front you are welcome to ours. Air temps in upper 80's and humidity upper 90's. So muggy that the rain which fell before I put my boat in(naturally)never dried while I fished in the hot hazy sun with no water in the boat. Oh and the water temps that go with that warm front? 80.3 to 81.5. I coulda stayed home and took a nap...[:knockout:]

and by the way Jason, you finally convinced me to break down and buy a 10" Jake. Sure glad I wasn't able to sell my pool cue musky rod before I got it. It better catch me one this fall or I will call the root doctor on you...[;)]

Who said, "If you don't like the weather, wait ten minutes and it will change"?

Was this directed towards Minnesota weather?

Wisconsin weather?

Yea, it always seems to be the best fishing weather when we at work. Especially then, when the weather sucks while we are fishing.

But, like football and golf, we learn to play our sport under all kinds of weather.

And, all kinds of weather challenges us to improve our game plans and skill sets.

If we keep learning from our time on the water, we realize that this particular day is geared for just a couple of presentational techniques and anything else is just churning water.

Trolling very high wind shorelines sure beats trying to control a boat and casting.

Casting sinking bulldawgs, crankbaits, bucktails for suspended musky sure beats casting bluebird skys, and calm shallows.

Even after an absolutely zero type day, I try and evaluate what was learned so my next trip will benefit.

However, one thing I did learn is that trying to be successful by scheduling a day of musky fishing here, a day of musky fishing there, is like expecting to win the lottery each time we play.

For me, this approach wasn't working.

I learned to schedule consecutive days around prime times and my success ratio began to climb. Consecutive days (2 - 5) days, even for just a couple of hours on any one day, helped me to wait out the bad weather and conditions and be there under the good weather.

I also learned to live closer to trophy waters so before work and after work fishing opportunities became a reality. Having to trailer more than an hour one way hurts one before they even hitch their trailer.

Time on the water helps one to wait out bad weather and puts one in the situation to fish good weather.

I just got back from Bone and Deer Lake, with Bone a bust and Deer lake a blast on Lindy Tiger Tubes.

Being able to fish 2 consecutive days, dealing with pea soup water clarity and rain and it's starting to turnover conditions, and switching lakes helped me to a 40 and 42 inch pair on Deer. Bone was 12 hours of absolutely zero results, other than a missed figure 8 hit that lasted about 2 seconds.

If anything, good weather can help one to try and figure out what to do to get beyond the bad weather.

Whine… whine… whine…? AND you call me a “pot stirrer”! OH your hypocrasm fsf! You know you have the crown when it comes to stirring the sh!t, and in this very thread all I heard was whine about the rain, whine about the heat, and whine about the mugginess. Just kidding please don’t trounce too severely.

Good choice of bait, it is wise to listen to a Master Lure Craftsmen.

Does the next fish that breaks the world record first have to be six feet long to qualify, or just a giant fish caught within a couple meters of the surface?

Just to clarify... I'm not whining about the weather forcast for next week.... I'm whining about the payback I'll recieve for making my wife freeze her rear end off chasing a fish she has no interest in. For short... my wife is a Fair Weather Fisherman. Its bad enough I'm making her spend HER vacation on a "fishing" trip.... at least Mother Nature could have helped me out a little. Oh well... all we can do is wait and see what she throws at me. You can decide if I'm talking about my wife or Mother Nature (ha ha).

FSF.... your first mistake was listening to me. Good luck with that Big Jake. It will quickly become a love-hate relationship. Catches fish.... but can be painful to WORK it for any length of time. And be careful collaborating with NXT......

Your wife is a fisherMAN J? Say it isn’t so… Please. I know you’ve been accused, but I’m sure you meant fisherperson. Shirley she has you WHIPPED into being a modern, politically correct, kind gentlemen. Have a good trip and please don’t tell us about her throwing it in you – if that’s what you meant you sicko. Why is it you guys "up there" are so easily controlled by your wifes/girl friends? The dominance ratio is way too wacked out + there must be a reason; your public admittance of "patty caking" is becoming legendary + I find it quite amusing! Mental exercise is in order + by this spring your freedom should increase 14 fold...now start LIVING!!! [:sun:]

JLong, "Lack of payback" is what I think you meant to say.[;)]

My wife will fish in just about any weather, just not for muskies. She loves jig fisshin for eyes, and also fishing for northerns. That's what I say we are fishing for when I want to chase ski's. "Honey, let's go "Northern" fishing.[;)] [;)]

Hope you get some good weather, and some awesome action. I'll let you choose from which source the "action" will come from.[:p]

Tight lines,
