Location: Hayward WI | No issues with mine purchased this spring, thrown Mags, 10's and 8's, got about the same amount of time on it.
Unless there was some damage around the break, ie something was dropped, stepped on etc, it sounds like a blank defect and should be replaced under warrenty. I broke a premeir bass rod casting a year ago and was replaced under warrenty.
You can ship if Fed Ex for $10 back http://www.stcroixrods.com/shop/catalog/Warranty_Returns-11-1.html#

Location: Wayzata, MN | I know it sucks to have a brand new rod break, but St Croix has EXCELLENT customer service. Use the link posted and send it back - they'll send you a brand new one.
I picked one up this spring as well - no issues with it yet..... |

Location: Nielsen's Fly-In Lodge, on Rowan Lake | Can't cast mag dawgs the same as small bucktails you loaded the rod to much a man with your vast experience in the sport should have known this! |

Location: Contrarian Island | ahhh yah...I should have known that Don..thanks for the great tip there bud!
you are so smart! |

| This is a perfect example of the fact that there is no such thing as an all around rod. Makes no sense that you have totally cast differently with different baits. Ie lobbing a plastic and snapping a bucktail. |

Location: Contrarian Island | the big nasty should easily handle mag dawgs..thats what I bought it for actually...It clearly had a flaw as it snapped perfectly clean ...had not been stepped on or damaged in any way...had 2 hours use...still I loved the rod and will send it back for a new one....

Location: Gilberts IL/Rhinelander WI | Mag dawgs are more than 6oz. I thought the rod was rated 2-6?? |

Location: Contrarian Island | well if that's the case then St Croix doesn't make a rod you can throw pounders with. |

Location: Gilberts IL/Rhinelander WI | I know what you mean. They do have rods rated up to 2 pounders, just not legends or over 8'. |

Location: South-Central PA | With some detailed pictures, it's possible to tell if it's a defect or not. If the rod broke due to damage, it will show in the pictures. Some types of damage cause very clean breaks. Very, very few rods leave the factory with defects. That being said, a serious defect will usually surface in the first couple of times the rod is used, which is exactly what happened in your case.

| Do you transport your rods to the lake in an 8 ft truck bed? Letting them ride on the tailgate will rub a spot through the clear and will weaken the rod because of the vibration. 8 ft truck bed 9 ft rod = 1 ft missing

Location: Contrarian Island | no, I don't transport them that way....must have just had a flaw... |

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | Any GRAPHITE rod can get bruised, just by hitting it on the side of the boat, and it will break at that spot when you load the rod. One thing with St Croix they will do U right. I love my Big Nasty rod. Also I keep my rods in a rod skin when I'm done with that rod in the boat. |

Location: Pelican Rapids, MN | I throw mag and double dawgs all day long with my Nasty. The pounder rod is the Big Dawg. Never had a breakage issue with a stock Legend and I'm hard on my gear! Knock on wood! |

Location: Ontario | You may have gotten a bad one bud, no way a new rod should break that fast, in that spot especially. I use the Big Dawg for magnums and the 7'9 xxxh Premier for Pounders and the mag Suzy Suckers etc. I tried taking roids, doubling my food intake and then quit working out all at the same time. The results were disastrous. I need that address one more time so I can send you a few tails to break more rods with! Haven't forgotten. Its gettin near that time. |
