Not really since that's about 28 miles south of Mpls, and is a farming and ranching community. Not to many cityidots live on 15 acres and have horses........
But,...I am a 612er !
I have spent at least 6-8 mo a year for the last 16 yrs. up on the Iron Range and they have their own words for city folks, especially people from Chicago and Mpls.
It is what it is...... |

| I believe there is a MI chapter 46 tourny on Bemidji area lakes this coming Saturday June 19th. Maybe a good report after the event to know what's going on. They are a great bunch of guys and should be a fun time. |

Great idea! Good numbers and plenty of 50" + fish.... not too small for 4 days especially if you have never fished it. Good luck |

Location: Bemidji, Lake Vermilion | Jerome, you're a hoot! I don't use either of those terms of endearment you quoted btw. Here's a real report I guess, sorry for keeping my original post short.
Bemidji - shallows/weeds have been dead. Blades, gliders, topwater, rubber - nothin doing. Have moved 1 decent fish in lots of hrs already both before/during/after the hot spell and cold front. Similar experiences from my network of guys. A few shorties, thats about it. Unless you're casting a jig/shiner, a few decent fish have been caught that way. I know trolling is getting a few, but very few and if you're not darn good at it and know where to start looking its a needle in a haystack.
Plant - Nothing so far for me, moved a few during a very long day yesterday, both were very slow and still marked up from the spawn. Baitfish is scattered to the 4 winds from the front, similar trolling right now to Bemidji, unless you know the lake its pretty much fishing blind, those that fish it like crazy are struggling also. I know a few guys who total a few fish caught since opener, and nothing special. Reeds were still almost nonexistent except right up at the short around the lake. Walleyes are everywhere though, bring a few jigs and pick up some minnows, you can't help but find them in massive schools, they were chasin muskie lures pretty well yesterday!
Temps are cold still in both lakes, we need some stable weather and maybe it will get better but fish are just not reacting well so far. Of course others may say otherwise, but I've got a pretty good network and reports are slow, very slow! |

| well doesnt change much! We will give it our best and have fun for a few days thanks for the info! |

| Thrax gave an excellant report! I'm on Cass Lake for the week and not even a follow! More stable weather is needed! |

| Has it been just me or does the water color of some of the Bemidji area lakes look odd. My son and I hit a few of the smaller lakes and they almost looked post turnover with crap all over in them.
We had a very difficult time contacting fish in areas I am usually quite confident in at least getting some window shoppers.
An odd start to the year to say the least. |

I've had a place north of Park Rapids since 1976. I'm from the city and I complain about city idiots. It's to bad a few can ruin it for the rest of us. Of course the locals only rememer the 'a' holes but that's to be expected. Anyway hope things start improving .. Mantrap has been dead.

Location: Bemidji, Lake Vermilion | I'll be fishing like a madman Thurs/Fri/Sat on a combination of Plant and Bemidji. There is a Bemidji/Cass MI Chapter tourney on Saturday. Both lakes plus Big and Cass are eligible waters. I also hope the bite picks up! I also feel better now that at least the additional reports say the same thing, slow.
Dehno23 - hope your trip is great. Pound the water and something is bound to happen despite the reports. Maybe I'll see you or some of the others on the lakes up here!! |

| yap thrax and the others are right it's been slow, figure 8 fish are non existent , if you can get a follow they wont be back to look again let alone go on a 8, I seen some beat up spawners too, only time we did ok was during a walleye tournament when we set up dowwind of the hoards of boats that were losing there bait every now and then! |

Location: Hugo, MN | Try some open water trolling. Now is the perfect time for it. Don't be afraid to troll the big stuff, either. Pick a small section of deep water and troll the heck out of it, noting where you see baitfish breaking the surface, or mark schools of baitfish on the graph. Concentrate on these spots and fish the top 10 feet or so. It is very possible to have some multiple fish days this time of year when open water trolling, since many of the big post spawn muskies will leave their spawning habitat and take refuge over deep water, chasing schools of cisco, crappies, sunnies and perch. You may see a few fishing shallow weeds, but not like you will later in the summer as the weedbeds develop. Give it a real shot and cover a manageable section of water. You may be the only boat on the lake that is catching fish. |

| Three fish registered today in the tournament. Ouch! Fishing has been really really tough up here. |

Location: Bemidji, Lake Vermilion | All 3 were caught open water trolling, and at least 2 of the 3 had significant spawning wounds/marks on them still. My boat lost one that might have measured, might not have (40in min for tourney), had a massive blowup on topwater but fish couldn't get bait in her mouth, a few other decent follows. Moved lots of shorties later in the afternoon.
Mayflies are now hatching on at least some of the area lakes, which IMO will only keep the fish in open water for a while longer unless there is a significant warming trend. |
