| I am heading up north for the 4th and want to get some muskie fishing in. I will be up on mille lacs the first two days friday and saturday. Of course I cant pass an opportunity to fish muskies there but my boat doesnt handle waves very well so if its windy what other lakes could i head to? Ive heard cedar is good i havent looked into it at all though so any info on that or any other lakes around that area that have good muskies or good numbers so we can try and get on some.
The second two days sunday and monday i will be up past little falls a half hour by randall and cushing. I will be 30 to 45 minutes to miltona and would really like to try that i was wondering any info on that lake as well as any other lakes that produce good fish or numbers of fish in that area. |

If you are in the area you owe it to yourself to fish Lake Alexander. Great lake to fish! This is right near Randall, MN. Lake Shamineau is not too far either. If you want a really small lake, try Round Lake. There aren't a lot of big fish in there, but you could find some action.
Honestly, if you don't have a larger boat, I wouldn't battle Mille Lacs. My suggestion would be to hire a guide for at least one day. I know money is always an issue, but especially on a lake like Mille Lacs, you will want the knowledge to shorten the learning curve.
As you mentioned, Cedar is a fun lake as well. East and West Rush lakes are probably less than an hour from Mille lacs too. I guess it all depends on what you are looking for - Numbers or size?
Let me know if you have any questions. I have fished these lakes multiple times. |

| Ok awesome! My boat handles mille lacs on a decent day its a 17.5 foot alumacraft but it just doesnt do great on tough days. Ive fished mille lacs a lot tho and have moved fish but cant hook them. I am probably gonna do a day on mille lacs forsure just cause. I will drive to the side of the lake where the wind is coming and fish it so i dont catch the waves rolling across the whole thing. Ive heard lake alex is great too and was just looking at pics from last year and shamineau one guys was doing great on. I think I will get my chance at size with mille lacs so a good action lake would be fun to know of too so i can see how i feel and how my fishing goes until then. If i get a couple i would go big if i am still at 0 before that weekend i would like some action so we will see. I also like lakes with good edges. Ive fished tonka the most so if any of those lakes you mentioned resemble anything I do on tonka that would help also i would really like to fish a lake with good clarity i love seeing the fish and consider that a great day if i see one.
Thanks for the help asteffes and if any of these other questions you could answer or give me a heads up that would be awesome!
Im trying lots of new things this year and gonna put lots of time in so any lake any knowledge of anything is great |

Cass lake. I've seen a 58 and 60 inch fish taken out of Cass. It's not near as big as Leech or Mille Lacs so you can work around the wind pretty easy and it's just a few hours further to the North. It's close to Leech too (like 25 mins) if you want to jump to Leech to fish for a day. Per acre I think Cass has strong numbers and some Big fish. Good luck. |
