| What's the biggest motor u can troll with effectively? 2 stroke and 4 stroke? What about a 115hp 2 stroke or a 150hp 4 stroke. BN have u ever tried trolling that 175hp Suzuki? |

Trolling for muskies I dont think you would have trouble with many of the large motors.
I have a 150 Suzook 4 stroke (same big block engine as the 175) and it trolls phenominally. On walleye opener here in MN I trolled with it solely for 5 hrs at speeds of 2.1 to 2.8 mph. It worked flawlessly. I know some have complained about issues with fouling plugs on some of the 2 strokes, but this is not the case with 4 strokes in my experience.
I think that any of the big motors could troll effectively at speeds for muskies so they all should work well, I would be more concerned about them loading up and fouling plugs as some of them have had some problems with that. |

| I was also curious about fouling plugs and gumming up the motor. I should have added that too my original question |

with synthetic oils, you can effectively troll with a two stroke engine. I am an amsoil fan and have used it religiously in my 2 stroke yamaha and on my old boat with a 50hp Johnson on it. Once I changed to Amsoil HP injector oil, the excess smoke, the strong fumes, and the fouling all went away... I didn't troll much with it, but I also changed plugs every spring, and always opened it up after trolling for some time.
With muskies, trying to troll down below 3mph with a big motor will be tough, but not sure how many applications there are trolling that slow. I know of one guy who used spinnerbaits and trolled under 3mph and did well over open water...

Location: Indiana | I troll with my Evinrude 225HO Etec. No problems at all. They way I have it propped I can get a little under 3mph if I want. Like VMS said, I always open it up after. |

Location: Cedarburg, Wisconsin | Trolling is no problem for my E-TEC 200HO. It trolls extremely well from about 2.8mph till about 8mph where it runs into a problem. At that speed the boat nose is rising up and mixing a lot of air with the water under the hull. If you watch the temp gage the motor temp is rising and will do so until the hot alarm goes off. Faster or slower is fine but right at that one speed I've got problems due to the hull design and weight distribution. If I trolled that speed I would put more weight in the nose to fix it but seeing as the fastest I usually run is about 6mph, it's a nonissue. Trolling is no different than idling for these big E-TEC motors and it seems they can idle all day with no problems due to the XD100 synthetic oil, reduced fuel charge at low speeds, and whatever else they designed into it. Impressive, but I still would rather use my kicker! Only problem is it can't go over 5 mph at WOT, so when I need the speed or when I get lazy and don't want to screw around stopping and setting up the kicker for a safe trolling run I just use the big motor. |

Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | VMS, Steve hit it out of the park..... I have a 2004 V Max 200 and troll about 1 hr out of 12 hrs fishing. I also changed over to Amsoil and Never foul plugs.
this will be my 3rd yr on the same plugs with about 640 hrs on this motor.....Lowest trolling speed is about 2.8-3.0
great motor.
