Subject: Networked Lowrance units

Guys:

I have a buddy that is moving his HDS7 to the bow and getting a new HDS10 for the dash.

The guy installing it is telling him that the default transducer will be the one in the back of the boat for the dash.

So EVERY time he drops the trolling motor in the bow, he will have to change the default to the transducer on the trolling motor. And then when he stows the trolling motor and goes back to the dash he will have to change that one back.

Seems like alot of work to me.

Also, when musky fishing and he is driving with the bow mount trolling motor, obviously he is using the bow transducer. But I like to look at the dash to see how deep it is in the back of the boat where I am fishing.

So, 2 questions:

1) Is there a way solve the issue of having to change between the 2 transducers everytime you drop the trolling motor?
2) Is there a way for him to have the depth on the bow from the transducer up there and me to have the depth in the back on the dash?

This has never been an issue before because we didn't have the units networked to work with each other.

Thanks

I should've mentioned at the beginning that the 2 units will be networked to work with each other.

If you select the transducer for the trolling motor on the front unit it will keep it that way

ttrap is right. However, when you turn a unit off, the unit that is still on will automatically pick up the transducer it's hooked to. So, say you have both units reading the bow unit, you turn the bow unit off, the HDS-10 will read the transom ducer. This can work vice versa.

I believe you can deselect the "Network Sonar" function on the HDS-10 and they will no longer be networked. Thus the front unit will only read its transducer and the rear the same. This would solve your number one problem, but you wouldn't be able to read the depth from the other transducer and I'm not sure if reading the opposite units depth is possible. However if you have Structure Scan you should be able to read the depth off the SS from the back and have it displayed on the front unit while it displays the Chart from the front transducer.
