| Todd,
Do you foresee having more rescues this summer? I'd like to come out and help if I can (moving to the Chicago area soon). |

Location: oswego, il | Yes, especially with all the rain we have been having. The area is being monitored heavy as we need to keep the fence free of debris per our agreement with the state as well as watching for poachers because this area is now off limits to fishing. |

| I gotta be honest...what are the dollars and numbers of fish being stocked into this fishery these days? Doesn't it seem kind of silly to put so much effort into a fishery that can't hold the fish in the lake? Are there not better options available? I respect you guys for the effort but if you are wasting your time ( I ask this because it seems like there are far too many "rescue" ventures) I wonder if your efforts might not be better suited on sustaining musky populations in other lakes? |

Location: 15 miles east of Lake Kinkaid | Lake Shabbona has surprisingly BIG fish for a small lake and most of the fish also carry an above average girth. It has been stocked for a long time and will continue to be one of the top 10 muskie lakes in Illinois. And as far as "not holding the fish in the lake"Z: new barrier was built to SAVE the muskies and (giant) walleyes that do escape over the spillway. This barrier traps the muskies and walleyes in a small pool below the spillway where they can safely be captured and put back into the lake.
Todd, I applaud your effort and would klike to thank everyone involved. If there is another flood in July (when I will be in the Chicagoland area) I will gladly join a rescue at that time. |

Location: oswego, il | Brian, escapement it a problem with any lake with an outlet. Illinois does not have very many natural lakes so stocking man made made lakes has to be done in order to have a decent amount of water to fish. This barrier will help put most every fish back. It would have been more ideal to have a barrier above like kinkaid, but the cost was too much because the dam is built on softer material than kinkaids barrier.
I can't take too much credit for all of this. I helped some and my club alot financially but quad county and the shabbina lake club spear headed this project and quad county organizes the rescues. Both of these clubs are also primarily responsible for the upkeep but we all can help when needed. |
