Alcohol dries out rubber. In auto racing you have to run a special carburator to run alcohol. This is true. i would say that rural areas have a more pure gas compared to the formulated stuff that you get in the cities. Alcohol also burns at a faster rate, almost twice as fast but burns much cleaner and cooler.

Back in the day that alcohol gasolines first came out, vendors were required to post stickers on the pumps informing the consumer of the additive. I've not seen these for several years now, maybe the law changed. I usually go in and ask but rarely find anyone at the station that knows for sure; I think they tell me what I want to hear. I do understand that the methanol is worse for rubber than ethanol, but again, how do you know? m[]

Not only that but alcohol also attracts water, wich means if you let your boat sit for awhile the water and gas will seperate and cause some major damage, I use to see it all the time when I fixed small engines. The reformulated gas contains between 10-20 percent water, now mix that with alcohol and you have some serious damage being done.
