| Does anyone have any advice for scrapes on the hands from muskie teeth? I have been using Neosporin with no releif! I had a deeply hooked fish yesterday and got some pretty good/painful scrapes from the surgery I performed on it! She swam away like a champ when I finished! Thanks!

| Not sure if you are using Neosporin with Pain Relief, but if not you want to have a product that has pain relief. Specifically, with Pramoxine HCl. That may or may not help. Other than that, I would recommend just OTC pain relievers (Ibupropen, Tylenol). |

| It's a good problem to have. Those of us that are yet to get out have healthy hands and the pain is in our heads. Good job at giving up your hands for the good of the fish.

| Gotta love musky rash!!! if you don't, or you are just handling a LOT of fish I would recommend either the Musky Armour gloves or the Lindy gloves. To me the rash keeps the memories alive! |

| I've heard of some people having strange reactions to muskie scrapes. I think some might be allergic to the slime or bacteria or something and some peoples cuts swell up and are very painful for a while. Maybe your one of those people? It sounds like a Grabb-It Tool would help the situation next time. Also, try bending down your barbs to more easily remove the hooks when they're deep. |

| First time I had "gill rake" and my hands were bleeding I was pretty ecsatic. I guess maybe next time you should wear some gloves. As for me I love to hold those Musky's with my bare hands. |

| This was the worst rash I've had and found that super glue helped seal it up pretty good. I also started using gloves after that one!

Location: midwest | I've had best luck with cleaning the cuts/raker rash asap with plain old hand sanitize....stings a little but heals quickly and seems to stop the itch. |

| I will echo some of the comments about gill rakes being good memories. I have a few scars for life from a gill rake on the attatched picture. I also had a hook in the other thumb that the attached musky ripped out. That hand bled a little less.
Sometimes I wear latex or nitrile gloves. The throw away types. They are cheap and tighter fitting. I think they are a bit easier on the gills than the thicker gloves. I carry a box of 100 in my boat at all times. They also work great late season for warmth.

| I'll second the nitrile gloves. Not the fanciest, and some odd-ball colors ruin the picture, but they save your hands. I use the black/grey ones pictured below. They're a lot less gaudy. That's only a 35, so they really arent noticeable on real fish.

Location: Central Wisconsin | Just soap and warm water is all you need to do, neosporin will help it heal faster. For next time I highly recommend Musky Armor Gloves. $15 for a pair and they work great without feeling bulky. Work great on fish from 20" to 50"+!
