I'm looking at a used boat with a 2000 Mercury 175 efi on it...mechanic says it passed compression test. Would like to hear of good/bad experience with this vintage??? I'm hoping to have solid runner with a few more years of life in it...

Thanks!

I have a '97 Merc 175 EFI - love the motor, just gotta give it some gas when you start it and and let it warm up a bit in colder weather before you run. I got a lot of good feedback on it before I bought the boat it's running on.

I have a 96 175 EFI. It is the coldest running motor I have ever owned. I have to let it warm up for 10 minutes and then it runs like a rabbit. If I let it run for a minute or so when I put the hammer down it bogs down and loads up. But will come to life in a second or so after. Then it runs great. Mechanic told me it is because of the thermostat staying closed longer to warm up. Still think it is a great motor though.
