Any suggestions on what App would be the best to purchase for Wisconsin, Minn, Ill, KY, waters, and is this worth spending the money on?

Just got a new phone & looking for Apps I can use for fishing.

I've got the Navionics app for my iPhone and like it. It's great for UGC and I've used it to mark spots and actually navved off of it a couple of years ago.

+1 for the Navionic iPhone app. It's a cool study tool and works very nice for ice fishing.

Pretty solid program but make sure you keep updating it, mine sometimes freezes up on me but for the most part is awesome. I endend up being the DD for my buddy's on a pontoon Friday night and used it because it was so dark and marker buoys aren't up yet. I just hope soon one of the locator companies finds a way to hook an iPhone/ smart phone to your locator then we'd have something.

Thanks alot Steve!! You just gave away my best spot! LOL

I havent figured out how to send a picture like that. I have a Droid, but I only played around with the features I really used.

Also, please mark all your spots as "objects". Dont use the pushpins in favorites because then I cant see where your favorite spots are.

Anyone know what happened to the “North Lakes” app for Navionics on the Android App Market place? I see south, west , east and other area that they offer, but no North Lakes. I see a Marine Central, but I’m not sure that is the same as North Lakes. I’m looking for Minnesota lakes.

I’ve sent an email to Navionics, and hope they can answer this, but I thought I’d put it out here too, and see if anyone knows.

Thanks

Guest is right. You buy one of those apps and then load the lake maps you want by selecting an area off the base map. This is how it worked on my iphone. I would suggest wifi for loading the maps to your phone.

No reply yet via email from them, but I decided to check out there Facebook page, and was reading up on some other people asking about East Lakes, and others, and Navionics reply from today was :

"It is not available at this time due to copyright contracts" and they have been pulled.

I've had the Navionics iphone app for a few months (ver 2.0 Marine and Lakes: USA). When you buy the app you get access to all the US lakes Navionics has - no need to buy maps - as mentioned above you download the ones you want before going out on the lake by selecting a region on a map.

As for performance, don't expect it to work like a real GPS mapping system that costs several hundred bucks but it's pretty darn good if you already have the phone and don't want to spend 100's on a GSP. The most recent update (I think ver 2.4) works a lot better than previous versions and I also found updating the iPhone OS recently made it work a lot better so keep it all updated. It can take a while find it's location initially (1-2 min or more) and maps still can take a while to render (again sometimes 1-2 min) but once it's all up and running it's OK. Probably the biggest issue is that it burns the battery pretty fast so you really can't use it continuously for several hrs (or get a charger on the boat). Depending upon the lake (esp the small ones), the depth contours can be inaccurate in places, but the bigger lakes with HD maps are quite good. Overall pretty darn good for like $10.

It's the best $12 you can spend IMOP. I was just fishing Lake Michigan this weekend in my boat and didn't have the chip. I just opened the app and used my phone. It wasn't as handy as having the chip, but I didn't have to spend $100+ x 2 units either.
