Hello all,

I'm wondering if any of you have the Lowrance HDS7 and if so would you recommend it? I am thinking about getting one. Thanks in advance.

I've got a 7 and an 8. I like them. They've got their quirks, but I think they're top of the line. Great platform for add-ons and LSS is awesome. Lowrance customer service is on par and the issues the early 5's and 7's had have been long-since rectified.

There were some issues with the larger units not having good seals and allowing water to get inside. This problem was with the first generation units, three years ago when they first came out. No known issues now however. You'll love the HDS-7

LOL, I'd heard it was the 5's and 7's with a few 8's and 10's thrown in, so I guess they were all suspect. A buddy from Indiana sent back three 7's. for it. But yes, it's been long-since resolved. However, as hard as it is to believe, some of these units are still on the shelf in stores with low-turnaround. I was in a West Marine last summer and they had three 7's that had all been on the shelf for two years. Buy from a Bass Pro, Cabela's, Thornes, Reeds, etc that has a large turn-around on moving units you'll be fine.

I sent back 2 different HDS7's last summer. Bought the first one in July from Cabelas.

Got a replacement from Lowrance and that died the next week on LOTW.

Both were problems with the units getting wet.

Lowrance awknoledged the seal issue when I sent the first one in. They "promised" me that I would get a newer unit in return for the replacement. Guess what? The next week it went out in the rain.

I now have the 3rd unit and it seems to be fine. Although, I don't let it get wet if I don't have to!
