bleeping pike

I lost my fourth 40"er this year, pike that is. This one managed to slam my supershadrap so hard she immediately came up to the surface, jumped three times (oh yes, clear from the water's surface!) and threw the bait. She left me with a heart-attack since I was shortline trolling at a medium speed, a totally bent leader and an opened 165lbs coast-lok snap!! Luckily she threw the bait before my bait came loose from the snap. Joe Bucher, I hear you. Next time it's splitrings attached directly to the lure + leader and no more snaps. She took line so the drag was set ok.

I don't know what I do wrong but I can't seem to land a 40"er this year. I did have a nice day with 6 pike (45cm, 60cm, 65cm, 71cm, 80cm and 90cm) and lost five (including the obvious 40"er).

Gotta lose the snaps Davani just for the piece of mind that when fighting a big girl you won't lose her to a weak snap!!! I switched over to split rings this year and it make a whole lot of differance....one less thing to go wrong while fighting 'em to the net. + it doesn't take much longer to switch lures.

Wow a 40" pike would be a blast!!! I've caught my two personal best Pike this year (37" & 36") while fishing muskies and man do those big pike put up a battle!!!

You'll get her next time!!!

Dirk sounds like you had a good day anyway. I hope you get a big fish of around 1.1 or 1.2 meters in length.[;)]
