Location: APPLETON, WI | I believe Pikemaster has mentioned this in a couple of recent replies. I'm not certain if any details or specifics have been released as of yet. He advised it is possible it may be shown at this year's ICAST event http://www.icastfishing.org/ |

Location: Hayward, WI | Isn't it more like the Toro is Abu's answer to the Shimano Curado 300? I guess I'm not too familiar with the low profile history, but I thought the Curado was about the 1st low profile reel capable of handling musky stuff.

| curley, I'm not sure who would be considered the first to make a low profile musky reel, before the Toro and Curado there was the Quantum Great White and before that there was the Abu 522, 523 and the XLT 2, and XLT 3's. Did you know that Abu also made a low profile XLT 5, 6, 7 that made a 7000 look like an ultra light? |

Location: Manitowish Waters WI | I dont know if you can compair the two. The toro has so much more in terms of Max Drag (i think 28) compared to the curado (16). The toro also has the all aluminum build and different gear ratios to choose from. I just bought a toro 60 so Im really excited to test it out. I owned a Curado 300 and was not happy with it at all. I spun out multiple times on hooksets and boat side blow ups with the weak max drag. I guess it could just be user error but Ill find out if the max drag of the abu fixes the issues I had last year. |

| I literally logged in just to post this same exact same thread topic! I do know that one is in the works, but there's a good chance that it won't hit until ICAST 2012... It's supposed to be a 500 sized low profile similar to the Curado's, but I've heard it won't actually be a Curado (not sure if it's in a different line-up or a new one altogether). If you google search for "Curado 500" you'll come across a thread on a different forum that says Robby Gant was testing one on an episode of Inside Sportfishing that aired a couple months ago. I'm just praying that it hits ICAST this year. I really, really want to at least see what the specs are and if they make multiple gear ratios. |

| I heard it will only be available in right hand wind only and no future plans for a left hand wind.
Right handed fisherman left out yet again. |

| I'm laughing at the "weak drag" comments on the Curado 300. Lets see, Trinidad 16 (not the 'A' version) - 16.5lb; Calcutta 400TE - 16lb..... All with the same dartanium drag material... I've never heard much in terms of complaints for the Calcutta TE and Trinidad 16 lack of drag. And what does the Toro have that is aluminum that the Curado doesn't? I think most people's preconceived notions of the Curado cause them to have a skewed view of its capabilities. |

I agree with you somewhat on the preconceived notion problem, but I just got one of these reels and the drag is testing at about 8-9 pounds absolutely cinched. I was expecting a little more than that (considering its advertised at 15 pounds), but I've heard that as you break it in the washers settle a bit and it'll tighten up. I'm just hoping that's actually the case.
PIKEMASTER, I'd like to see a 6.2:1 with a big enough spool diameter to get a retrieve of 34+ a crank, but either way, I hope Shimano reads that post. |

| I would guess one of the first people to know about a 500 would be Larry Dahlberg. Big shimano guy and most of his big fish are caught on the curado 300. |

| When I bought my Curado 301, I made sure it was the old "gun metal" color, DSV version, while the green was already available. It actually took me a while to find the gray one.
Just think about it, which color on your own car would you prefer ? green or silver/gray ?
Just like a sports car, Curado's slick edges deserve a sharp looking color. |

| If it does what what it was designed to do and doesn't have any of the issues I've experienced with some 8 or 9 other reels I have owned, I don't care if it only comes in PINK! |

| a beefier 300 would be sweet, i like mine but the drag sucks and i always have it cranked down ...theres nothing wrong with the dark green color someone is always not going to like a color and u cant make everyone happy |

Location: Hugo, MN | Fact is, they'd sell more if it wasn't green. Not everybody is obsessed with the performance of the reel they purchase. I remember looking through Cabela's catalogs as a kid, finding a rod and reel combo that 'looked nice' and was in my price range. How it looked in the picture immediately decided whether I'd buy it or not. Years later things have changed for me. Now I'm a tackle snob, and I own two Curado's, one grey, one green. Color matters little since I built custom rods to match the reels. I'd like to see the Curado in the classic Shimano gold body. |

| does anyone know if there's even a picture of this reel out yet? They've been giving them out to test so I would think you could find a picture of one online somewhere... |
