| Anyone ever have much luck with this lure? I use it a lot because I think that it just looks great weaving back and forth across the top of the water, but I have had little success in getting a fish to strike. I even change up the speed and motions in my retrieve. Any colors I should use? Let me know your most productive lures. My best lure has been a big orange and black buchertail. How about you?
Best of luck to all of you this weekend, I think the weather will be good for some big fish!!!![:sun:] |

I like and use the Giant Jackpot a lot. It's one of my favoite lures. Get lots of follows and blowups on it, but must admit that my hookup ratio is not really all that good. But that doesn't keep me from tossing it a bit on every trip. Those topwater explosions are just plain awesome. I probably fish it just a bit too fast and that undoubtedly accounts for some of the missed strikes, but it's hard not to get it really "walking-the-dog."

| Watch "Simply fishing" with Bob Mehsikomer. I believe he is the inventor on the jackpot, and Poes marketed it. I am in the Chicago area, and his show is on Sat. mornings on a Milwaukee channel, but I believe he airs on Fox sports net. Check out http://www.simplyfishing.com/ and you can check when it airs in your area. I met Bob last month in Vilas county, and he is a very knowledgable guy. The nice thing about his show, is he pretty exclusively throws jackpots, and his camera man covers the full cast, so you get lots of topwater footage. He usually has someone else in the boat with him, and he will comment on what and what not to do with jackpots, and if he sees something his partner did well, or didn't do well, he will say something. I wasn't even aware of this show until last month, and I am glad I found it.

| I use Jackpots a fair amount. They are particularly good on those days when you just can't seem to move a fish any other way. I worked WB almost 6 hrs last Sat without a follow - wiht the mid-day sun burning I finally went to a Jackpot and a mid 30's nailed it after only about 20 minutes. Had to quit a few minutes later, but 1 is better than 0.
I find that fish will blow up on, and miss, Jackpots a lot - even more so than follow it. Sometimes when the blow up and miss they'll come back after it - you need to be very patient and not set the hooks until you feel the fish. When things are really tough I feel even a blow-up and miss is OK because at least you know a location to target later. But, when the fish start moving and miss it more than 2-3 times I switch to something else - I'll try a bucktail 1st, then go to a jerkbait just below the surface. |

| Steve,
I've just started muskie fishing and been hitting W.B. about once a week. I have caught 3 so far, all in the low 30's on Mag. Raps. I did see one that appeared to be in the 40 range but that has been the biggest. Any tips for a novice on fishing the bear?

| I can get them to follow a Jackpot, but only caught a few fish on them. Great search bait! |

| Hey Now,
I've had more luck with the creeper-type surface lures, and especially the buzz-blade topwaters (Mouldy's Topper Stopper).
But an alternative to Poe GJ is a lure by Stidham's--I think it's a Z180 Jr. Looks a lot like a jackpot but rides a little higher, so it's easier to get the nice walk-the-dog action like you see in the videos.
I'll continue to try both types, cuz surface strikes are twice as exciting as anything else...
Have a groovy weekend,

| I traded Sputterbug for one last month + can't keep the bass off of mine! I got a big smallie on it this morning but that was all...the action alone is worth getting one in my opinion. I too like the Hi Fin jointed creepers, as well as many other baits....[::)] |

| I like the ones mentioned so far, but one that I've fallen in love with is the Viper. I've gotten far more action out of this one than any of the others combined in one season alone!
