| I am just getting started trying to paint some newly carved Muskie Lures.
I have read some pages on the forum & still have ??????s
What are the proper steps for painting from start to finish?
are these the correct order?
sealing the wood (minwax sanding sealer)
Primer ( Kilz)
Createx paint
Devcon 2 ton or envirotex as the top coat.
I have Createx paints an Iwata Airbrush, Minwax Sanding sealer, Devcon 2 ton Epoxy, lure turner spinner.
I have read a ll sorts of ways to paint.
Like said still confused.
Any help will be appreciated.

Location: Okoboji | 1. seal with thinned etex (denatured alcohol)
2. paint with white createx
3. paint design
4. let dry for a day
5. full strength extex 3 thin coats or 1 fat coat of devcon
let that epoxy set up for a good week before use. or better yet get a 2k auto clear and save a ton of time and hassle. | |

Location: Money, PA | I've also heard of some guys spray a light coating of clear lacquer over the paintjob...let dry for 1/2 hr or so and then you can apply the epoxy right away. I personally don't use the epoxy, I use straight clear lacquer. I also think a primer coat is unecessary....if you use a wood sealer, 2 coats, let thoroughly dry, scuff sand and paint white Createx right over it as basecoat, then paint your pattern. No problems.
