I am in the market for a new rig for Big plastics and Big blades. I am looking at the Hulbert 9' rod or the Tackle industires 9' one peice extra heavy rod. I am planning on putting a 7000HSN on it. Does anyone have experience with either of these rods that can shed a little light on them? I see a good price for the Tackle Industries rod on musky tackle online.

Both will work. I have the TI rod and use it alot for big rubber and big blades. Works well for the price.

If you are looking for a one piece rod I will have my new 9' MH, XH and XXH rods in both full grip and split grip 18" fat cork handles out in about 6-8 weeks. Musky Tackle Online will still have the Tackle industries rod specials at that time too.

I've got (2) TI rods right now... both XH models. I can throw DC10's and DC13's all day long. Plenty of backbone with the perfect amount of give. For big plastics/rubber, I'm anxiously awaiting for James to come out with his new series of rods and committed myself to one of his new super-duper XXH 8'0" rods.

James... hurry! I'm dyin' to get this new rod!!

I just posted a review of the Tackle Industries rods I received from James a couple weeks ago. Haven't had a chance to put them to use on the water yet, but my first hands on impression of them looks very promising. Hard to go wrong for $110, I think. I'm sure Mike's rods are good too, but I read too many positive reviews of the TI rods to not give one a try.

I use an 8'6" Fenwick Elitetech extra heavy big bait rod paired with a revo toro 60 winch. Works great for every pounder, mag dawg, double 13's, double 10's...even thrown the 2 pounder with it with no problem. Its a great inexpensive production rod. Just my 2 cents worth.

i still think st. croix makes the best rod on the market for the price imo. i have and still use the two i bought 8 and 11 years ago.

the 7'9" xxx-heavy is perfect for pounders. i have used one and don't mind how short it is, but that is fishing out of an esox mag. the 8'6" x-heavy can probably handle them and is perfect for mag dawgs. the 8'6" heavy is perfect for double 10's.

you can get more out of these rods for a longer period of time.

St Croix Big Dawg is a great rod. It is what I used with a 7000 last season.
