i have a 75 mercury that does not seem to get water up to powerhead. it pees water fine but i keep getting an alarm if idled to long. if alarm goes off i get it up on plane and within seconds it will stop. is this something i can figure out myself or not. i have had two "mechanics" look at it and they can find nothing wrong. impellar has also been changed. wondering if there could be blockage somehow.

Check the popit valve,... I had the same problem, with over heating at idle and replaced the impeller,...... still didn't fix the problem untill I replaced the popit valve.... runs fine now.

Does it have the correct thermostat(s) in place for that specific motor? Or maybe something in one of the springs of the thermostat(s), like a small pebble to prevent them from opening and closing correctly?
