Location: Pulaski, WI | Need a new sonar after mine was stolen. What's the difference between a HDS-5 and an Elite 5 DSI? Thanks, John

Location: Stevens Point, WI | The HDS-5 offers a lot more options and capabilities than the Elite-5 does. The HDS-5 gives you the option to use the StructureScan(side-imaging technology), Sirius weather/radio option, the broadband sonar(offering a better detailed image) and a handful of other options that may or may not mean much to you depending on your fishing and how you utilize your electronics.
For more information on the HDS, check them out here:

The Elite-5 DSI offers the DownScan which is a photo like view of the bottom. The Elite series doesn't offer all the other options the HDS does and isn't quite as advanced as the HDS but you also don't pay as much.
For more information and images of the Elite-5, see this link:

The Lowrance website does a pretty good job of explaining the differences. Both units allow you to use a Navionics mapping chip, but the HDS unit allows you to utilize the LGC-4000 gps puck which is much faster than any other puck on the market.
If you have other questions or need more clarifying, please ask.
