| Looking at doing some walleye fishing this spring on WI and wondering if can fish with a 17-18' alumacraft boat with 150HP motor if is deep enough or too shallow? areas above grandfather, grandmother dam and south of Tomahawk? Thanks.

Location: north central wisconsin | Some areas yes, some no and each stretch of the river up that way has areas you won't want to motor through. Best bet is to take a smaller boat out first, or go with someone familiar with the area. Nothing worse is getting a good drift going in solid 150 hp water, only to end up in a stretch of canoe water below, and not able to get back up to the landing. |

Location: United States | The stretch between the Grandmother and Grandfather dam under normal water levels is navigable. There is launch on Cty 107 about half way between the 2 dams. Out in front of the launch is about 5 to 6 feet of water. Upstream is just progressive swallower all the up to the dam. Not water for the boat you are taking about. Downstream is also generally speaking 5 to 6 feet until you hit the bridge. From there is it 8 feet to 20 feet right in front of the dam. Good smallmouth and muskie water. Not much of a walleye fisherman so I can't speak to that. I can say I never really saw too many people walleye fishing this stretch.
The stretch between the Tomahawk and Grandmother dam also under normal water levels is navigable. I launched just south of US51/Cty S off of Cty 107. From there you can go upstream to just below the Tomahawk Dam. This is a popular local spot for early season walleye fishing. Downstream I don't remember much but you can make it at least down to the big slough on the east shoreline.
