| yeah, Michigan is behind the times and has endless promising musky water, but circa 1950 musky reg's. please help us! Send your support of higher size limits and closing our horrific musky spearing season if you would be so kind - email [email protected].
from the Michigan DNR website:
"The Department of Natural Resources and Environment has released draft plans for managing muskellunge and northern pike statewide. The department is accepting public comment on the draft plans through March 3, 2011.
The purpose of these plans is to provide a strategy for managing populations of muskellunge and northern pike throughout Michigan.
These plans build on a foundation of previous public review and incorporate the latest in research and management experience. The second drafts of the plans were developed with input from DNRE staff and angling interests, including three workshops, review by citizen committees and previous public comment through the DNRE's website.
The desire by anglers to harvest medium and large northern pike often conflicts with improving the opportunities to catch large northern pike. Similarly, the desire by anglers to expand the number of waters managed for muskellunge conflicts with those who may oppose expansion. These plans include detailed information on the biology and management of these species, as well as specific goals, objectives, strategies and actions for managing muskellunge populations and their habitat, improving opportunities for large northern pike on select waters, and improving northern pike fishing statewide, while also maintaining opportunities for harvest and spearing of northern pike.
Comments may be sent to the department via the following e-mail address: [email protected] or by contacting Kregg Smith 269-685-6851, ext. 115.

| I had no luck sending email under the email link you posted here,so I searched out and found [email protected]. and sent my recomendations that Lake St. Clair have at least 48" for a sizelimit.I explained how the Buffalo Harbor use to be a Trophy Fishery with many Muskies from 50 to 54 inches with girths from 27 to 30 inches. But by the time we got the sizelimit raised from 44" to 54" in the Harbor and 48" in the Upper Niagara River it was after the fact that many fish were carried away to be on someone's wall!
Here is the return response I recieved.
Capt. Jones,
Thank you for your response. Your insight to the fishery resource is valuable and we appreciate your perspective on this issue. Your comments will be considered with review of our regulations in the State of Michigan.
Thanks,

Location: Musky Tackle Online, MN | Thanks for the bump to the top before the deadline hits. As musky fishermen, we need to support sound management practices everywhere. Whether it's someplace we'll ever fish or not, it all effects us in one way or another.
Email sent from Minnesota...
Thanks,
Aaron |

Guys, even if you haven't or don't plan to fish in Michigan in the very near future, please still send a quick note. If the DNR can see emails from out of state people, maybe this will help with some of their decisions based on the possibility of tourism. |
