Location: New Jersey | Gonna repaint a believer, after i scuff up the paint real good, what are you guys finding is the best primer that really adheres to the bait?

Location: Hugo, MN | I use Rustoleum Plastic Primer. It eats into the plastic a bit, and bonds really well. You have to let it dry completely if you're going to use water-based acrylic over it, such as Createx, because it is solvent based and everything needs to evaporate before you seal it with a layer of paint. I've not had any problems with Createx adhering to it. With plastic baits I don't use as much clear, since tooth puncture is less likely. Another option is to use laquer paints on plastic baits. The baits like Jakes, DR's, Believers, etc., use laquers with laquer clearcoats. This keeps the weight down and allows you to paint faster. I've used small spray cans of automotive paint over 14" Jakes after using the plastic primer, and they've held up well. There's also some clear out there that has a holographic sparkle to it. | scuff with a stotchguard pas. lightly. use white lacquer primer. thats what we did when we painted believers by the hundreds. if its a virgin bait dont scuff.. this way you can apply any based paint over and not have issues | |

| I use Kilz odorless interior oil-base aerosol...It covers great and works excellent with lacquers, without crackling. I lightly scuff the baits with grade #0000 steel wool before I prime them. I've used this product on everything from Shad Raps to Jakes and it hasn't let me down yet... | |
