| Is friggin' spring here yet? "Chomping at the bit" and counting the days til the opener. Just curious to know if any Musky Hunters out there have any useful insight/advice on spring lures/rod reel combo. Have a 6'6"(1-3oz) and 7'(1-3 oz) St Croix and Abu Garcia Record 60's. I'm also thinking about switching to lighter lb test 50 instead of 80 and a mono leader instead of the steel. Hoping to increase my chances of catching my first springtime Musky.
Also, not quite sure if anyone else feels the same way I do but those smaller lures(baby cicso's, shallow raider's, etc) they sure have small hooks. Kind of apprehensive and considering upgrading hooks one or two size's up and hoping this won't impede the lures "action" in the water.
Thanks for all the help!

you should threaten him more often!
PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – To the relief of the winter-weary, the world's most famous groundhog predicted an early spring Wednesday.
Punxsutawney Phil emerged just after dawn on Groundhog Day to make his 125th annual weather forecast in front of a smaller-than-usual crowd who braved muddy, icy conditions to hear his handlers reveal that he had not seen his shadow.
Including Wednesday's forecast, Phil has seen his shadow 98 times and hasn't seen it just 16 times since 1887. There are no records for the remaining years, though the group has never failed to issue a forecast.
The celebration took place on Gobbler's Knob, a tiny hill in Punxsutawney, a borough of about 6,100 residents some 65 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
The celebration is rooted in a German superstition that says if a hibernating animal casts a shadow on Feb. 2, the Christian holiday of Candlemas, winter will last another six weeks. If no shadow was seen, legend said spring would come early.
In reality, Pennsylvania's prophetic rodent doesn't see much of anything. The result is actually decided in advance by 14 members of the club's Inner Circle, who don tuxedos and top hats for the event.
The celebration usually draws 10,000 to 15,000 spectators when it falls on a weekday, Groundhog club spokesman Luke Webber said. The area was under a winter weather warning and while heavier snows and sleet never materialized, rain falling in about 35-degree temperatures made for a below-average crowd, said Webber, who offered no specific estimate.

| Don't know what its like in your neck of the woods, but down the road a bit from where the whistle pig came out of his hole, it feels like spring this morning. Nice. But we're not naive. It won't last. Still, its nice to be past January. |

Like I said, it didn't last. Bitter cold here this morning. But so what; its February. |

Location: Minnesota: where it's tough to be a sportsfan! | This might warm you up: Oldest son went on a Ice fishing Road trip. He had waist deep snow, shovel down to get to the ice, then auger through to have the water spout back out at you and soak everything! He would not tell me how many miles he put on...but ended up on LOTW...after hitting 10-12 lakes on the way up & one river. When he says he used his snowshoes and extra canvas to help hold heat in the protable...I know it was nasty. Ah to be young again! |

Location: North Central IL USA | Some Robins have been wintering up north for the last several years. So seeing any now doesn't mean squat. No Spring in sight - sub zero temps come back next week. |
