What is your favorite dbl 10? Musky Mahem, Mepps, Shumway, Bucher, Bait Rigs, Grim Reaper, Llungen etc...

Hope this hasn't been covered before, I couldn't find anything.

definitely take a look at Glittertails made by Trophy Hunter Accessories.

http://www.glittertail.com

hand-made in MN with the best components available, and the blade/skirt placement is just right to ensure that perfect pulsing action from the skirts.

an added bonus is that the blade unit and skirt unit are connected with a split ring. this helps keep fish hooked and also allows you to interchange different blade and skirt combinations. if you spend $75 on big-name double-10s you get 3 baits; for the same price you'll get 9 different Glittertail color combos. you can order "heavy" or "light" versions depending on how deep you want the bait to run. plus Jim will custom design any bait you can dream up!

oh yeah...they catch big fish!

I don't throw buck tails much, and I've only thrown Mayhem,Glittertails, and Lungen, but I like the Glittertails better because they are built like a tank and swivel in the middle .
In 2011 I will throw buck tails 50% more than last season.......maybe.... I can't deny their fish catching ability. come on open water !

I like the Spanky Fireballs best. And they are made in Wisconsin and don't use any lead.

Glittertails, love them. I also make my own. Obviously all the brands listed will catch fish. I like the versatility in the Glittertails as you can mix/match the blade & skirt combinations.

Spankys are defintely my favorite. I was able to use them a lot this year and was very impressed. These baits are very durable and catch fish. Another great thing about these baits is that you can custom order them in just about any color you want directly from their website.

Musky Mayhem -Purple/Gold Sick! My partner coined it "7-9" 3-years ago....I'm a big Vikes fan, and they almost lived down to the name this year. I don't throw them a ton, because I'm one of those lure changer types. If I'm smart I will throw it more often because it has 5 fish under it's belt with my biggest fish each of the 3 seasons I've owned it. 2008 -43 & 48", 2009-49", 2010-43 & 51". For some silly reason I like jerks, cranks & topwaters. They all have their place. If the progression continues the same, I should be looking at a 52" this year and 2012 a 43 & 54" then in 2013 I'll hit that elusive 55" marker annd in 2014......I have a few years before I break the state and then world records. AND WHEN I DO THE VIKINGS WILL HAVE THEIR QUARTERBACK AND WILL WIN THE SUPER BOWL!!! And when that happens the 2nd coming of our Lord will happen. Prepare yourselves.......................

1. Double Cowgirl 2. Bucher Mag Tinsel

I personally like the thinner bladed bucktails in general.

I like a Llungen DC-10 or Beast Teaser Dbl 10 at night because they run deeper.

I did best on these last summer. Love the rubber skirting.

I personally prefer the .025 blades personally, always seem to have issues getting the thicker blades going.

I'm partial to glittertails which is obvious from their website. I have a variety of different types of double 10s I have used and do occassionally use the cowgirl being one of them. I think that glittertails stand out from other double tens in a few of the following ways.
1. The interchangeable blades allow for a multitude of combinations. (For example on one particular day I heard the fish seem to want double nickel and not colored blades. I quickly changed blades out and boated several nice fish on that combo.) With the interchangeable blades I can go from a light assembly to a heavy assembly depending on if I am working heavy cover or shallow rocks or a deeper weedline. I can also switch to double 12s quickly.
2. I think that the hook ups are slightly better with a jointed bucktail.
3. Glittertails will typically cast farther.
4. They have a different action on the retrieve which can be a huge triggering mechanism that most other 10s do not have.
5. Jim can make numerous different combinations of colors, blade thicknesses, sizes, and weights.

My top two colors I would like keep to myself. But some of my other favorites are: Bronze Beast, Canadian Bluegill, Bluegill. I think Jim may have 70 plus different combos available.

I throw different types of double 10's too but I have to say that Glittertails are my favorites. I have to echo the reasons posted above on what makes them a great bait.

Glittertails are by far the number one producers in my boat. They have accounted for over 200 fish in my boat over just the last 2 season's. Many of those fish exceeded 50 inches in length.

Hey Ande......Last time I talked to Jim he said he had over 200 skirt combinations now.

Now that I see the Glittertails also sport the thinner .025 blades I will be picking up a couple to try in Milwaukee. The fact that skirt and blades can be interchanged is a nice feature. Also, the jointed shaft (just like the Mepps H210) would keep them from bending like a DCG. The way the flash is tied on also looks like it would give the lure a different look in the water.

Gerry Carroll makes a great bucktail at prices way below the prices in stores, and he will custom make you any combination of blades/skirts you want...you can tell him any color combo for the skirt you can think up. ....Glittertails are great too...and I use them a lot as well ...Jim will also make you anything you want....which I like as I like to think up colors on trips and then call Gerry or Jim on the way home and have them whip them up...
other than those 2 I don't throw much else.

Using my home made ones for the most part with a few DCGs mixed in and XX's. Might have to check a few of the others out though for some change.

They all work, one thing about the glittertails is you can order 2 (a bright and natural color) and make different blade combinations yourself (its easy). then you have a bunch of different colors to choose from. I carry 2 in the boat and countless blade combinations.
