Location: Denmark | I have been using ABU or Daiwa round reels for the last 30 years, with all their pros and cons, and this season i purchased a Calcutta 400B. While finding the Calcutta a bit super flu for my needs, I was looking for something like Okuma out of curiosity and price.
I have been reading all previous posts here on this subject, but dare to raise this subject again, after all reels are great topics during the winter.
I have read that Okuma have had some issues, but I rather see this as a plus, as the newer models like the Akena, then should have been updated accordingly to the experiences learned from the past.
But what models are the best buy for the money, San juan, Halogen, Chromer Induron, Akena, Nitrix, Red isis, or the new Isis?? |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I like my Akenas. I have several Indurons too, have treated me well. The only issues I have had were related to using a very large power handle that occasionally caused the reel to engage mid cast. Replaced it with a BIG double paddle model, and it solved the problem immediately. I wouldn't use the Akena for burning double 10s.
Had the new reels in my hands at ICAST, and was impressed. |

Location: Ontario, California | I just received information today that the ISIS and the Cedros round reels are due to ship from the factory the middle of February. We held off on introducing these until we felt confident with all of the upgrades that we put in these reels. I personally have put 150 hours on the last test sample without any issues. The project was released from the factory a couple weeks ago so production will happen in February. The issues with the last IDX and Red Isis reels were related to the thumb bar and the pinion gears. We have changed the design on these reels completely and the results on the prototypes have exceeded my expectations. From fishing saltwater in 95 degree weather to windchill around 0 degrees, the reels performed perfectly. As the product gets closer to arriving in the U.S., I will let all of you know when to expect them on the store shelves. |

Location: Warroad, Mn | I like the Isis, which is a new model for them this year, with paddle handles. The same reel with a neat power handle is the Cedros, which I'll be trying this year. I've had good luck with my Okuma reels. Doug Johnson |

Location: Racine, Wi | Bug, The Akena from a price point is the most economical. I would look at that if you're not looking to break the bank. Otherwise, the step up would be the Isis that is being released in 2011. The Akena's are available now if I'm not mistaken.

As a right handed blind guy, I'm not really hung up on any color. But the crank on the proper side is what I really need. I'm still looking for a physical advantage in switching hands during a cast.
Blue??? Are they even playing in any bowl game??? GO BUCKY!!!!! Can you smell the roses? |

The Akena is a great buy for the money, I honestly don't think you can come close with another company. The change in handle from the Induron was a big improvement and four of them performed flawlessly for me in 2010. The same will be true for the Isis, to get the same features you'll be spending nearly double. |

Is the Saltwater Cedros available in left hand? Looks like a nice reel. |

| ok so it looks like the cedros and isis are basically the same reel other than the handle and flashy colors, but what is the big difference between the akena and the isis/cedros for it to be twice the price?? other than the forged vs. cast body... |

Expand your mind Nut.... talented folks like most muskie guys can cast with either the right or left hand on the reel you can either be right handed or wrong handed |

Location: Ontario, California | Thanks for the videos Steve... If I wasn't too deep in the vodka I'd type an explanation but the main differences involve a dual anti-reverse and a different thumb bar system along with the difference frame and sideplate materials. The Isis is the best baitcaster Okuma has produced hands down. |

| Ok . The Saltwater Cedros looks pretty nice. How does it compare to a much costlier Trinidad? The blue does suck tho, and the gunmetal Isis is the perfect color. |

| I have been using the Akena since August and love them. My clients also liked them. Good reel for about $100!!

Just think all these years using a spinning reel, I've been doing it with wrong hand. Who da thunk????
But I have to check out that left side crank Isis. |

Location: beloit | I was looking at the cortez 12-cs on the web site and noticed the gear ratio on the real says 4.1:1 but the specs say 6.2:1. it also looks like the reel in the picture says the model is sz-11cs, are they making more models than whats listed and if so when will they be listed on the web site with specs?

Location: Ontario, California | The CZ-10CS is essentially the same sized reel that Grudge was talking about when he mentioned the CSD-10CS (Cedros Star) before he deleted the picture.... the Cortez is being built on the same platform as the CSD but is made out of graphite. The reel in the picture above is an older photo with the incorrect screenprinting. The gear ratio on both the CV-10CS and 12CS is 6.2:1 (and btw... the 12 is far too wide of a spool for muskies). These reels are going to retail at $129.99. |

| The Cedros star drag 10cs has a narrow spool correct? It looks to be pretty close to a Trinidad ,at least it would work as well with Okuma quality. And $200 cheaper. When and where will they be available? That is going to be my double 10 reel for next year. |
