| I have learned so much making baits and even more painting them. I have been looking at everyones great baits and attempted to step my game up. I finally got the b@lls to paint gills and I really like them. Just wanted to share some of the last ones I am going to do for 2010. I had a great time making baits this last year and the amount of things I have learned is crazy! Happy holidays guys and stay warm! Still having issues w/ downsizing my pics but oh well.

| I was so scared to put gills on a plug but it turned out well and I am not looking back. I guess I finally have a painting style. Thanks again guys! |

| Thanks guys, they catch fish really well already but after seeing all the great baits on here and from over seas it made me feel like I was missing something in my paint jobs. I think the cheeks round out the bait and makes it look more natural and finished. I also made a bunch that have a rubber tail and for lack of a better name, am going to call them "Baker Butt Shakers". Should be neat to fish but can't tell you how it works until the lakes thaw. I used a screw lock on the back so you can change tails on the water w/o needing glue, just screw it on and I was still able to keep 2 hooks. What I find cool is that the cheeks take only a short time to do now. At first I was taping them off and this took FOREVER and then I just made a stencil and life got much, much easier. In the past I hated using stencils b/c I thought it was cheating but soon realized that my free hand skills are still lacking in some areas. I figured other people are using them so why don't I? I am wiling to repaint each and every bait I have sold so far to put cheeks on them if people contact me. I would ask for them to pay shipping to me in NY and I will paint the cheeks and send them back on me. I figure if you show someone my lure, I want it to not only run the way I want it to, but look the way I want to. I wish I would have added them from the start but my skills have gotten better just by painting more. I also got a little better by getting an Iwata after trying to use cheaper, less accurate air brushes. I highly recommend them if you like to paint. Thanks again as this give me confidence to try bigger and tougher patterns. Remember to contact me if you already have on and want cheeks painted on them and I will add an extra clear coat to your baits to "lock down" the new paint. If anyone has thought of doing cheeks like I had for so long- just go for it and have your paint thinner close by in case you mess up and need to wipe off all that paint. | Here are some more. I added a .061 wire bent into a screw lock to screw on rubber tails in the Butt- Shaker and the rest are foils w/ tons of pearls.

| Thanks, really appreciate that guys. Having a good airbrush has definitely helped. Before I ever paint these, I lay 2 clear coats on a sealed blank (soaked overnight) and scuff them with the red pads. RJBass taught me that trick and I give him full credit for that, it definitely helps to keep plugs from cracking and gives me a nice and smooth surface to work with. I have found if I just paint on the wood I'll defiantly have issues later on, either chipping or big cracks. Almost every single Tuff Shad I have refinished was cracked basswood and after redoing them this way I solved their issues and they haven't recracked on me yet. The paints I spray aren't typically used for bait making because of the cost and how nasty they are. I only use PPG Urethane automotive paints, which I mix myself after trying many different types. This allows for a vast array of colors, candies and pearls. When I mix my paints I usually add some sort of aluminum or pearl to it to make it shine. On some plugs, the entire paint jobs are just pearls over a white body. I have a bunch (couple hundred $ worth) of water based stuff just sitting in a tub barely used. I then top coat that with another 2 coats of thick clear coat for a total of 4 on each bait. I then water test each one to make sure they are tuned, have the action I'm looking for and this gets to be a pain in the butt during the winter. Thanks for giving me a second to blab on but I don't think I ever told people the way I make these. Getting cold outside guys so stay warm and good painting!
