Question
How many of you keep a variety of different style of baits with different actions in a few colors in your boat V.S. Keeping a few styles in many colors? For example straight crank baits. Do you just use depthraiders and have every color or do you have some depthraiders, kraves, ernies ledgends ddd in only a couple of colors.

I have a variety of many baits in various colors but a few lures like Suicks I have about 30-40 with me in many colors in 9" and 10" for both musky and pike fishing. in general though I have 2-3 of each lure type. Action IMO is more important than color most of the time. vibration vibration vibration. I know I know, "That's what she said"... Merry Christmas!

So what your are saying is that it is more important to have a variety of actions over a few actions in several colors.

It isn't so much the 'action', but what the lure is intended to do. Position in the water column, weeds or open water, speed of the retrieve, etc. Dark contrast colors and light contrast colors of pretty much all presentations for me.

My favorite colors are:
Blue Back White Belly
Black Back Red/Orange Sides, Yellow Belly
Orange back, Yellow Belly Sides and Belly

The order of importance according to me is:
Action, Size, Speed, Color
I agree with sworall, i wouldnt throw Magdawgs in spawning time (maybe Shallow if i used em) and i wouldnt use topwaters in the Fall etc

The best fishermen I have known, all had one thing in common. They all used a few different baits and colors, but used them often, and knew how to. I think we all know thats some guys are catching more than others, mostly those, who are not paying too much attention to a wide numbers off different colors and shapes. As a result of this, I rarely carry more than 5 different types of bait(glider, diver, softplastic, spinnerbait, bucktail), and mostly in tree or four different colors. But I always mix my planos before a trip, according to the type of water I am fishing.

I consider the baits i keep in the boat tools and the bigger variety of tools I have the the easier it is to pattern in fish. I do have my favorites, but I do realize that a straight depth raider and a straight ledgend perch bait have their place and fish will take one over the other.
