OFM spent some time with the folks at Aqua-Vu at the St Paul Ice show, and selected a new camera for the winter OFM IcefishingFIRST Video recordings. While in the booth we discussed a project they are working on that involves a Sony HAD camera and a harness...that will hook up to the OFM studio! It's intended for fixed ice houses and a TV or large monitor, but they may have just put together the coolest kit ever to set up a system using a computer for DTE recording in a Just Encase box or a monitor mounted in a case or cooler. They also have one prepackaged with a 10" monitor and a video out...perfect for the OFM on the Ice Productions in concert with an above the water unit for those interested in Direct To Edit recording to a computer of SDHC card on a portable battery powered DVR.

More after we get a chance to build a couple systems on total cost, but it will be very reasonable.

Can't wait to use this stuff....

Here's a the first Aqua-Vu 10" studio build, the cooler has batteries in it, and can take a small deep cycle that will give you a full day with no problem. Very portable, and we put a cloth bag over the screen to transport.

The black box controls the monitor and camera, and the silver box is a DVR with a 4 gig sdhc card powered by double A batteries.

You can buy the camera, a cord storage bracket, and the control box for your ice shack from Aqua-Vu at a reasonable price. The entire system including the big monitor is also available. That unit will be very cool on my boat.

There are all sorts of DVR units out there. I look for 'double a' powered units that record to sdhc, and use 2 gig cards because a set of batteries will last about the same time as a 2 gig sd card when recording from the Aqua-Vu 500.

That particular DVR is an SVAT. Any flash memory camcorder with an AV In jack will also work, I use two cheap DXG cameras for recording with the Aqua-Vu 500.

The SVAT is attached to the new Aqua-Vu studio because I can run an 8 gig card in it.

Another unit we have in play is the OFM Studio, loaded with an Aqua-Vu HAD Sony camera and an experimental Sony camera we have in play with an extreme IR LED array. The default camera is the Aqua Vu Sony HAD. The recording device AND the display screen is a 10" mini computer, and all of this plugs in to a compact glass mat deep cycle battery. Nice to record directly to the hard drive, direct to edit. That entire unit is housed in a Just Encase custom box, and has been in use for a year using several camera heads. We are very much looking forward to getting the units in play this week on the ice.

Are you recording from your under water camera onto the sd card in the DXG camera? What model camera has the video in jack?

The DXG we are using is an older model. DXG 505V. We got the last one online for $50.

I have an old 506v but it it does not have a "video in" jack only audio & video out and usb. I think this is probably the cheapest way to get a dvr, if you can find the right camera.

That is one sweet sounding rig w/ the custom case, any pics of that? I've been thinking about a recording setup as well off the ice camera, just because you see some pretty neat stuff on screen sometimes.

Here you go.
if you want to build one get in touch with just Encase for a price on the case, and PM me with any other questions on the interior build. I can record for 24 hours straight with this thing.
