Location: Indiana | I live In Northern Indiana and fish Tippy/Barbee chain a decent amount. I was curious if any information was available in regards to muskies being in the Tippecanoe river which starts out of Oswego Lake which is the last lake in Tippy Chain. In the entire chain that empties out into the tippy river there is approx 2500 acres of Muskie lakes, 12 i believe. These lakes are stocked at a very high rate, 5 fish/acre i believe and have been for at least 10 years. The river is small but could hold populations of muskies in my opinion. If anybody knows of any info. in regards to the posed question please feel free to comment.

Location: Palm Coast, FL | There are some muskies that have gone down river. I can't remember the name of the dam around Lake Schaeffer but there have been muskies caught there...coming from Tippecanoe Lake. Tippecanoe Lake only gets stocked with 1 fish per acre and never more. There is an endangered species of Darter that they are trying to preserve in the Tippecanoe River. |

Location: Indiana | Thanks for the info Vince, I was more interested in the upper reaches of the tippecanoe river, mainly upriver of State road 19. I was down fishing for pike on the river the other day and saw something huge chasing bait on the oppisite bank. Whatever it was it was very large. I guess it could have been a big pike as ive seen and heard of 40in+ pike being caught out of the tippecanoe river. Hows the fishing been on the lakes lately vince, havent been out since OCT.? Thanks again and any other opinions are always welcome.

Location: syracuse indiana | hey fluff,
well from what i have heard from alot of local bait shops down that way, i get to stop at alot of them durring the week just to chat and see whats up, they have told me that alot of sothern river guides have been catching them in the southern region of the tippy river. and they were after other species of fish. these were all accidental catches too. but they do not have scanners to tell exactly where they have come from. i have seen pics of these fish too. for my own eyes and they are muskies. now vince is right about the darters and the dnr do not want these fish in there, but after the crazy springs we have had in the past i believe thats how they got in there. also on bruce there is no #*^@ holding them in there and if the water would get high enough they could leave there and that does reach the tippy. so who knows where they came from , but there is some in there in places. heck just in the past few years alot of fish have been turning up in the st joe with a 50 caught in a trap 2 years ago that the dnr believed to have came from skinner lake which has a runoff into there... so they can be anywhere. i just wish alot of these poeple whould have a scanner and that would tell alot about where these fish are comming from...bill |

Location: Indiana | Thanks for all the info Bill, Ive been fishing the river alot latelty for pike and thought it would be awesome to get ahold of a big river muskie, I never really thought about them coming out of bruce seems very probable. I have always wondered about the stjoe being it runs into Lake Michigan. Im sure there are muskies in many river just maybe not fishable populations.

Location: Indiana | Also I was doing a bit of reasearch tonight and the creek that comes out of Lake Palestine, which was stocked with Muskies from 96-06 flows into the tippecanoe river just south and east of Etna Green, Indiana. THis adds another possibilty to where muskies in the river have come from, and supports a stronger likely hood that more muskies are in the river then previously thought. |

| Yes I have seen muskies being caught in the lower section of the tippy at the Oakdale dam. Talking with fisherman from that area, they believe it's because of all the high water they have had in the last few years. In early spring, not uncommon to see a musky being caught daily. Although, because of catch and release , not exactly sure of numbers of fish in area. |

| Fluff. the guy you need to tolk to is Mike Hulbert. He fishes those small rivers a lot and does pretty well. Takes a small boat and I guess you need to find a place to launch. |

I checked into this a couple years ago...not everyone can afford a $400+ scanner. |

| It would be cool if the webster or hoosier club could purchase one scanner for the JTCC and the properties caretaker could keep to check the fish, most of the photos are taken by him anyways |

| Just went kayaking on the tippy this weekend with my brother. North of lake Schaffer. We caught 4 Muskie all together. And missed a few more. 3 were small around 16/18in and I caught a nice 26 incher. Beautiful healthy fish. And a blast to catch in a kayak. Caught them walking a baby zerra spook across the top near cover. |
