I got a 2009 tuffy 1760 with 150 merc opti it had a prop on it that I did not like. I tied a 15" 19 pitch merc prop today and it was better and worse I lost 7 mph and can blow this prop out at will What are you guys running on the same boat
I can only lower the motor one hole

You will need at least a 19 pitch stainless on that motor, one hole up. I preferred the Tempest Plus with the medium vents.

Bobbie,

Any luck in finding a dealer with a demo prop program?

I'd be itching to try a tempest plus on that...

Here's a list of props that will run acceptably on that rig:
19 Pitch Tempest Plus
19 Pitch 4 blade Trophy Plus, engine might have to come up a hole
19 or 21 pitch Hi 5...depending on desired performance
Enertia 19 pitch; haven't tried this wheel, but it could be stellar

Bobbie, I would suggest the 19 pitch Tempest. I ran that on my other 1760 and it did 51.5 mph. I ran that high five because it performed a bit better in rougher water and turning, like it should.

I run a 150 on my 617.

19 Pitch Tempest Plus - great prop for this motor

19 or 21 pitch Hi 5...depending on desired performance = tried a 19 and found it ran the RPM's to high. I would suggest a 21 in this prop. Very good holeshot and control with this prop in chop and waves. As with many people, you might not like it does reverse poorly. I have to give it more power than with the Tempest to go in reverse.

The prop that is on now is a Mirage three blade 151/4" 19 pitch. boat speed is 40mph at 5500 rpms but I can over rev with ease and blow the prop out at any point from a stand still to WOT. Is the tempest that much better?

Yes, the cupping the Tempest has will make this motor and boat act completely different. The Mirage is for twin and three outboard setups, along with V8 Stern Drives. The Tempest has more cupping and is made for V6 motors 150 and up. The cupping of the Tempest will also provide better lift and handling than the Mirage will give you.
