| I am planning on making some baits this winter when im done with school. i want to make bait similar to vipers. i want the large woosh sound. the major difference is i want a 10" model not a 8 they make. can anyone help with weighting, wood choice, ect.

| I've made a few WTD topwaters. First, I've used either 1.25" poplar dowel rod or I have used a larger thickness closet rod of some sort. Shape the lure to your liking on a lathe or belt sander. Drill a hole in the center of the bait (from bottom) and melt some lead in there. Play around with it. It's all pretty simple and it's fun just to try different ideas. WTD topwaters are probably the easiest to make. Master that and you can try making a crankbait. |

Location: Loves Park, IL | The WTD lures I make for musky are about 8-9 inches long and I place the weight about 2/3 of the way to the tail of the lure, right behind the center hook. It seems to give me great WTD action. Hope this helps and have fun building.....once you start you will never stop.
