Just want to know what the consensus is on some of the relatively new tech available to us musky fisherman. First of all, Side-Imaging and Down Scan.... worth paying that extra dough for or is it better suited for walleye guys, etc? (I realize it would help some, but is it advantageous enough to warrant the extra cash) Second, I-pilot.......

It almost seems that some of the sonar tech is best utilized on the large screens (10") and those also cost >$2000. So, is it worth it or should I divert those funds into tackle.

Thanks for the input.

That I-Pilot is sweet. Imagine getting to concentrate on fishing vs keeping your boat over a certain depth. Side scanning: I have yet to use it or see it working in a boat. Looks cool at the shows though....

Structure Scan has helped me immensely. It doesn't replace conventional sonar, but I run my back unit on a sonar/Structure split and the front graph on chart. Conventional sonar shows suspended bait better, but with Structure scan (on down scan) I can tell you what kind of weeds I'm over because I can see the cabbage leaves. And in a lake where weeds are king, that's worth it.

And on side imaging mode, I've found wrecks, rock piles and sunken timbers, which in a lake like LSC, any little bit of structure you can find is golden. So for me, Structure scan has been worth every penny, as has the larger screens which allow me to run 4-way splits, or just get great detail on a single single screen.

Might get iPilot over the winter...dunno yet. I've got another Power Pole to install before anything else.
