Location: Pelican Rapids, MN | So I was getting ready to stick the boat in the garage this morning for the week as I'm headed out of town tomorrow for the next 7 days or so. I get a phone call from a buddy asking if I want to go out today. I said sure of course, "Where do you want to go?" He asked if the bite was hot in my neck of the woods, and I told him, it had gotten a bit slow the last few days. He replied" Well if you want to drive a couple of hours we can go out up here?" Before he could hang up, I jumped in the truck and I was off. I hadn't fished this area in the last couple years so I wasn't really pumped to try and pattern fish for a 5 hour casting session. We dropped the boat in and Me, my buddy, and his buddy headed out across some big rough water. We located the first spot, and raised a couple decent fish... Actually raised fish on almost every spot we went to however these fish were bigger than the rest. We spent a couple hours bouncing from stop to spot and we decided to go back to the reef we started at. We had fish going all day on blades and glide baits, but oddly no follows on rubber. I was eager to throw a new Dawg Brad @ Musky Innovations sent me that has produced a few decent fish recently. I snapped it on, casted, pumped it twice and set the hook. I "politely" asked on of my boat mates to grab the net. Just then my buddy asked "Where is it?" I said "behind me on the kicker." He replied "AAAHHHH.... there's no net anywhere." The net fell overboard as we headed across the lake. I was distraught as I realized my lucky net was now on the bottom of the lake. But all the sudden the fish surfaced with violent headshakes. "Holy S4!T!" I said, it's friggin' huge! As the fish neared the boat it chilled a bit. Enough for me to drop the rod and dive darn near in the water and hand land a giant. I yelled "open the live well" which I hate doing by the way, but I had no choice as I had to control the fish somehow. We had to contort the fish somewhat to fit her through the opening to the 60" tank. After we managed to get her in... which wasn't easy, we had the pumps running she was 100% fine. She was so wide you couldn't see the bottom or the sidewalls of the well. We pulled her out and put her on the "Wishful Thinking board" (Board Dimensions 66 long bottom is 15" wide) She measured between 56.25 and 56.50. We snapped a couple pix and put her back in the livewell to girth her. Like I said, I hate doing this, but I had to see what she was working with. We originally taped her at just under 28 inches. She thrashed and crapped a bucket load of 4 inch black feathers and remains all over inside the well. We re-measured for a photo and we could just hit 27 - 27.25. Snapped a couple more pix then we let her swim. We decided the honorable thing to do was to round down. We agreed on 56.25 x 27. She immediately took off and we didn't see her again! After a few phone calls we set back up and the guys in the front both had a fish follow on the next cast but no more hook ups.
After talking with a local weather guy, he said i may return home from my trip to hard water? SO who knows, my season may have just closed... probably not, but if it does, it was a hell of way to go out swingin'!

| Awesome fish Jerry. I've been watching you and a few others exploits this summer on the boards. I'm alway impressed with the way you and others can consistently boat big fish through out the season. Again great season and a great fish. |

| OMG! What are you doing? Do you have a magic fish finder or something! I'm up at my grandma's right now and was going to call you this week, but I saw you're truck with no boat behind it and now I see you're headed out of town. Maybe next season. Maybe I'll bump into you at Zorbaz or the Pub or something! You are a musky machine! I heard Jason Hammernick caught a big one yesterday to in the same pond? |

Location: Pelican Rapids, MN | Thanks, it was awesome to stick a fish like that, especially since I was headed out with pretty low confidence level due to the fact we were only fishing a few hours and according to the weatherman, it may be my last day on soft water.
My JustEncase box is in my garage. For a month, up until last week I've been dragging a lot of suckers and my boat gets incredibly nasty with scales, sucker slime, etc. I didn't want to get the box encrusted with all that smelly crap. Plus, often when I live bait, the weather drops below freezing. When my live well starts sloshing around, everything gets a deep crust of ice on it. Didn't want that on the box either. As soon as the season ends and I clean all the sucker dirt out it will be planted back in place. Best box on the planet!!!
That last pic is one of my favorites. It was a great portrayal of what I was feeling. Not a bible banger, but I was thanking God for a great season, a great fish, great friends, family, and a great life spent on the water. It kind of all came to head at that moment. It was a beautiful afternoon.
And just wait until you get a load of what Musky Innovations is bringing to the table. The bait is sick in the water! |

Location: Pelican Rapids, MN | And yes, Hamernick did catch a monster yesterday as well! But I will let him tell you about it. You can visit us both as we will be sharing a booth this year at the Tri-Esox, Milwaukee, and George's musky expos. |

| I was the guest in Jerrys boat. This fish was TRUELY TRUELY a monster and unbelievable to see first hand. I had never seen a fish of this caliber except in pictures before!!!
Congrats again Jerry glad you were ready to hit some big water with me, and super jealous that you got hooks into that fish. Now as for politely asking for the net, I guess we differ on what politely means. I really cant wait for next year until the "Prototype Dawgs" are available. They looked awesome in the water, and the results speak for the themselves.
If i could set a hook I guess there should have been a four footer in the boat too
Hopefully we can find another monster or two when you get back.

Location: Pelican Rapids, MN | It was good to get out with you! It had been a few years. Hopefully we can do it again soon - I didn't say anything about your hooksetting prowess.....It would have just been that much cooler if we all could have bagged one
Hard water must be on the cusp, look at all the giant fish being caught. It is unreal - I checked solunar, weather, astrological calendars, and the almanac. I can't find any reason why the big hawg phenomenon is happening - It has to be forecasted weather IMO. But it is ridiculous how many giants are being boated! |

| Hey everyone, in Chicago for the weekend. Thanks for the compliments, It's been a stellar season! I've only musky fished / guided 91 days on 10 different lakes thus far this season and have just under 200 fish out of the boat with 37 over 50. and slimehuffer, the weight loss is a huge help when spending long hours in the boat. I have had knee, back, ankle, and other weight related issues. It's tough at the beginning, but once you start feeling the difference the weight comes off much easier. Go for it man - it's a much better life.
And it's easier to slay the hawgs! Good luck!
