Hi
Im looking for a new longer rod (i currently have a 6'6 jerkbait rod) for casting pretty much everything from bucktails (max size double #8s) to Magdawgs.
I want a rod around 8'6 and prefferably 2 piece or a telescopic handle.
Ive been looking a Strike Pro The Hamer 8'6 8oz and Okuma EVX 8'6 H 8oz
What rod is the best suited for me? I really like that the Okuma has a telescopic handle since a 8'6 single piece rod is very anoying to have on a buss or train (im 16 and obviously cant legally drive a car)

Thanks for any help!

I am really happy with my Okuma Evx Telescopic rod. I am sure you would like it. I think I remember reading that Tackle Industries has telescopic rods and the equipment I have seen from Tackle Industries seems really good and prices are great just like the Okumas. If you use the search tool on the forum you will find enough information about everything musky fishing to keep you busy and learning for a long, long time. Happy reading!

"Big Wood Musky Lures", "Musky Tackle Online", and myself have the Telescopic rods on special right now for $110 delivered (USA) if you want to try one. Special ends at the end of November. Got some great feedback from them in 2010!

I see you are from Sweden, Gustav. Unfortunately, shipping to oversee is really expensive ( between 180-230$)

Yep, i know
for a 7' rod its 40 bucks, the okuma will cost me $170 but thats nothing compared to the cost for a rod of equal quality here in Sweden.

+1 for the Tackle Industry telescopic rods. Put a couple of the new telescopics through the paces casting yesterday with big blades/mag dawgs/cranks and trolled with them also with some biggie cranks. Loved the long handles as they really help on bomb casts, and I love bomb casts! No hookups yesterday but the rods are very nice. Maybe today we'll see how they handle a Northern MN monster ski!!

Muskieswede i would advice you a Strike Pro the concept. The Hammer is really an evil piece of work haha it can spin 10's with ease and 10kg pike won't know what hit em.
Ive been fishing the concept since it came out here in Holland and its just an amazing rod, comes very close to a St. Croix legend tournament MH 8' only 200euro's cheaper (here atleast, probably in sweden too). Balances out pretty much the same at the same weight the St. Croix has alittle bit more backbone and more tip flex wich are traits i dont like.
The Concept rod can handle 8's and about 160grams (5,5oz) so a MagDawg might be alittle too much ... allthough a friend of mine throws those all the time with the concept. It also splits just above the handle wich i think is perfect.
Downside is the lengt at 7'6'' a tad short in my opinion for spinning, twitching and softbaits. A plus of a 7'6'' is you can still jerkbait comforably with it and throw your jerkbaits miles away. Served me perfectly in the spring on a Norway trip where the pike were holding in the bays, throwing Big Bandits a mile towards the big ladies without spooking them.

Hope this helped you on your search. I know im still looking for a 8'5'' rod with the same traits as The Concept for ripping Strike Pro Giants in fall ;).

Hi!
I have a Strike Pro Contest and had Contact, i love the rods but for Magdawg theyre a bit soft.
Of you want a long rod for casting Strike Giant i reccomend the RST/LF Chopper, its 9' and 120g, available from lundgrensfiske.com

The Hamer just came out a a 2Piece but i can get the Okuma EVX for half the price as The Hamer, otherwise i would get The Hamer.
