Fishawk 1750 - Which motor?

Subject: Fishawk 1750 - Which motor?

I currently have a Fishawk 1750 and have a 2-stroke 75 Merc on it. I am going to trade my motor in on a 4 - stroke. My question is should I go with a 75, 90 or 115? I am leaning towards the 115 because it's only $1000 different from the 75 and $500 difference from the 90 hp. Does anyone have any experience with the performance of the motor on this boat? I am looking at the Merc 115 EFI.Right now I get 36 - 38 mph with all my gear, 2 people and a 1/2 tank of gas.

Thanks,
Greg

I have a 90 Honda on my 1750 Fishawk. I have had it for about 1 year and so far no problems. I can usually get to between 37-39 MPH with all my gear and all of my partners gear.

Remember that the 4 strokes are much heavier than the equivalent 2 stroke. I was told (I don't know how much to believe) that the 115 4 stroke would put to much strain on the transom. Make sure you check that out before finalizing.

Dave:
That was the first question that I asked the dealer. He told me that the 4 - stroke would be fine. The difference in weight is 386 lbs (115 4 - stroke) to 305 for the 75. I thought it would be much more.
Thanks,
Greg

Look @ the Evenrude Ficht. It'll be at least a grand cheaper, much faster, and have a 3 year warrenty. The smaller blocks have run very well. It's just the 200 block engines that HAD problems.

I spoke with my dealer today. He contacted Crestliner. They told him the 115 is fine even with my 9.9 kicker on the transom. Crestliner said that the weight is not as critical as much as the thrust the engine puts on the transom. The extra weight will probably sink the back end some, but it should be a nice motor.
